Licence plate light bulbs

My son came home tonight and I noticed his light plate lights were out. I got the cover off of one, but couldn't wrestle the bulb out. My suspicion is that the bulb should just pull strait out, but that it is corroded in.

However, before I go full gorilla on it I wanted to make sure my suspicion is correct. It doesn't twist out, does it?

Pretty sure it pulls straight out. Consider replacing them with LED - I think it's a T10, but need to verify that.

It is a wedge type bulb, so it should just pull out.

I believe they are small wedge base and pull straight out, but I just go to the autozone or whatever autoparts store buy (2), ask them to look it up for you, they all carry them. Once you see what they look like you will know how to take it out. I'm going LED next time.

I got these https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/instrument-cluster-gauge/194-led-bulb-1-led-wedge-base/197/ and they are plenty bright.

If they won't come out just wrap a papertowel around it and break the bulb then grab the filament with pliers and it'll come right out... Ask me how I know:smokin:

As previously stated it should pull out but it may be caught up on a broken wire sticking out from the bulb. The contact wires are small and get brittle and can hang up. It's also possible the bulb got hot enough to melt into the plastic. I had that happen on a different car. Had to remove the bulb housings and install a LED strip with T-Taps to solve that.

On my 4runner I use sylvania LEDriving 194 bulbs for the tag and they are brighter than my reverse lights!

if you break the glass, be careful not to blow a fuse. I did that while upgrading to leds.

That's a good point, you may want to disconnect the battery and ensure all electronics are dead before busting the bulb.

You don't need to go as far as disconnecting the battery just to change out the bulb. Just don't have your lights on and you are fine. It's the easiest fix even if you need to break the bulb.

that's right - that bulb is connected to a switch. I blew a fuse while switching the interior lights.
