Lift gate storage?

I saw that Smittybilt makes storage for Jeeps and I feel like I've seen pictures of other 4runners with liftgate storage.

Are there any companies that makes it for our cars?

I understand our gates open up and things could fall out but for when I'd want to use the back window and grab something quickly.

i have this exact idea currently on my list of notes to R&D. my thoughts thus far:

1. fabric backing is preferred (there's a guy here that sells aluminum ones that are pricey and not milled to spec, no thanks).
2. rivets are acceptable mounting hardware as i would most likely never remove it.
3. thought of purchasing some COTS smaller MOLLE pouches and mounting them spaced out to achieve the same goal as having the whole shell covered in MOLLE would.
4. personally i would like a light on my lift gate, recessed into the shell. i dont have a garage / driveway where i live and do a good amount of work at night on the street. also, camping, etc. so it would have to account for this.
3. i have a go bag and would NOT mount to the tailgate (weight and maneuverability.)
4. shovel, axe, FAK would be perfect here.

Would also love to learn to sew; could make a custom jobbie the way i want :). just dont have the space where I live.

your jeep link does intrigue me though. anyone else done something similar?

I swear I've seen a 4th gen 4runner with a liftgate storage but wouldn't know which thread to look in at this point. I saw it months ago when I was looking through all the picture threads.

for months ive been considering mounting a net on my lift gate to hold light items such as towels or a sweatshirt, blankets etc. wouldn't be difficult at all with some fender washers and bolts or even some rivets

Buy this and rivet it into the plastic or screw it in, that thing looks perfect

certainly! my plan was to use race window netting that you see on drag cars. Ebay offers up some very reasonably priced nets in various sizes that would work well. keep us posted! I would have done it by now but Ive actually managed to utilize nearly every inch of space inside my truck and I haven't found a need for anything extra...YET!
