Lift Gate Strut hardware

I need to replace my lift gate struts and some of the hardware that holds them. Specifically, I need the upper and lower pins (they appear to have had a grommet of some sort at one time), and circlips that retain the pins. I can't find them on line - does anyone know the part numbers?

Also, I've searched the site and I see recommendations for "Strongarm" brand struts. Is this information still good?

Thanks!

I just replaced the rear hatch supports yesterday using the StrongArm 6815. I also used a nylon spacer to replace the worn plastic bushings.

Here is a link with some pictures of the install.

Even though it's only been a day, I would recommend them! Plenty of others have had good experiences with them as well.

Great advice - thanks!

Any suggestion as to where I can get two of the pins? Look like Toyota only sells them with the struts, and my local wrecker - if he has a T4R at all - doesn't like to sell little hardware like that.

Anybody parting out a wreck or something want to sell me the pins?

I'll be happy to grab you a set of pins next time I'm at the yard. You can have them for the cost of shipping and $2 for a coffee :). PM me if you need them and can wait a few days.

6815 is the stronger version of 4286, which are more OEM-like.

Cool!

Unless you lost your stock pins, why would you need new ones?

Yes, Strongarm are good. I have a set of over-charged struts (find the part # on their website) and they hold up great even in cold weather.

Because the circlip came off/broke on one of them and when I opened the liftgate the pin disappeared on the ground somewhere. I figured to get a second one just in case.

I don't have any spare pins, but you can grab some 1/4" retaining rings from the hardware store. I launched one of mine during the install and had an extra one laying around.

I harvested a few sets of these from junkyards too, don't ask me where I put them lol

Note the top pin and bottom are different

I installed my new liftgate struts today. Thanks to 4Runner4Leon for sending me the pins.

I used the tip from SockeyeSalmon (above) too, and it worked perfectly. Thanks!

Here is a picture of the bushing, installed:
