91 is a second gen, and go with the smallest amount of lift you absolutely need. I don't mud my '86 if I can help it, so I'm no help there.
With balljoint spacers and some tweaking of the torsion bars (diff drop highly recommended) you can squeeze maybe 3-3.5 inches out of the front, for less than $150 or so. Any higher and you're looking at a $1000+ commercial "kit", or a solid axle swap. Most guys who wheel will tell you if you're going to drop more than a couple hundred, just get a straight axle already.
You've got coil springs in the rear, which are also cheap to lift. Coil spacers are quick and dirty. Taller stiffer springs are also an option, I think folks like to score FJ or Landcruiser takeoffs for cheap to lift their second gens. Again, more than a couple inches and you start to run into issues like driveline length/angle and such.
Get a set of 1.5 inch balljoint spacers for the front and tweak the torsion bars a touch to get you 2 inches (get spacers and longer bolts to drop your diff a touch, or you'll have eventual trouble with CV joint angles), some stiffer coils to get you 2 inches in the rear, and then a 2 inch bodylift. I think that should let you clear 35's with a minimum of hammering/trimming, if any, the second guys will spank me if I'm wrong.
Do lots of searching, though. Have a solid picture in your head of what your goals are for the truck, and what you need to do to get there. And for gods sake take your rig out and get it dirty before you start modding it, just you know for sure what you want out of it.
