lift/leveling kit

ok im new here just joined today so hey everybody!!! my question is what is the ratio for these leveling/leveling kits. ive been tryin to figure it out for a few days now and it makes no sense how by adding a1 or 2 in spacer on the top of the strut your getting more then 1 or 2 inch of cleance or lift in the body. ive measured my 4runner and its 33.5 in the front and 36 in the rear i was gonna buy a 2in spacer for the front thinking it would make the truck level but from all the things im reading im not sure if that will happen the way i think it will. thanks for any help

Welcome. In the ratio is about 2/1. 1" of spacer material will yield about 2" of lift.

I wouldn't go for too much lift with just top spacer as you may, on full extension, be rough on the balljoint.


For the rear it's 1 for 1, obviously.

Can't help you out much with the numbers and specs, but what CJ mentioned is accurate from my understanding.

I had a Toytec 1" spacer lift installed on my 4R last month. I don't know the before and after measurements, but here is a pic with it installed....

hey g.i.g., what are your measurements with just the 1 in spacer up front that might help me better decide cause it still looks like you have some rake not as bad as stock though. i wanna run an 18 in wheel with a 285/60r18 tire maybe a 275/60r18.i just dont wanna look like im stuffin them under the truck but i also dont wanna get into lifting the rear but if thats what its gonna take then ill do it as a last resort. but your measurements from ground to wheel well would help out alot. oh btw my measurements were from the ground to the wheel well in the middle of the well.

I just went out to my garage and measured. I'm measuring 34 and 3/4 inches in the front, from the garage floor to the bottom of the fender. There is still a slight rake to my 4R, but not as much as a stock 4R. Also, I have one inch taller tires (265/70/R17) but I didn't have any rubbing issues before I got the leveling kit installed.

My guess is you would either be exactly level or a little nose high.

You need a 1" spacer for a 2" lift

ok so i called a locale shop i use to work at and they said with all the trucks they have put spacers onthey suggested the 2in., they said with the 1 inch i can fit alittle bigger tire and it will still have some rake and with a 2.5in ill be alittle nose up. they said with the 2in ill just about perfectly level nose will only be down about 1/4 in if that which i think will work perfect. thanks for your help guys and speedy answers. my spacers have been ordered so ill let you all know how i make out and ill take some pics before and after. thanks again

they are 2in i believe they are called fusion spacers and i have no plans to lift the rear at all. i can understand if you put a 1in preload spacer in your gonna get more lift (a) from the spacer and be (b) from the tension on the spring. but i dont see how people how a 1 or 2 in top out spacer is gonna give you more then 2in. the shop i use to work at even tried both set-ups and now they only use the top out spacer easier to install and it gives thier customers the look and ride they dont wanna lose and also enables them to run bigger wheels and tires which is what they specialize in. but like i said once i get the kit installed i willl take pics and post before and after.

ok so i installed my 2in leveling spacers today and my end result is i have a near completely level 4runner my rear measurement is still 36in. and my new front measurement is just about 35 1/2. so what i thought was correct if you are using top out spacers the size of the spacer is the amount of lift you will achieve. i will have pics up in about 20 min. just wont have a full picture of the truck cause its dark out now ill post of those tomorrow.

So what size is your top out spacer ? (how thick )

You information is confusing and goes against what everyone else has experienced.

A 1" top spacer will give you 2" of lift.

A 1/2" top spacer will give you 1" of lift.

i used a 2in top spacer. if you use top spacers whatever the size of the top spacer will be what you achieve in lift, because your not doing anything to alter spring pressure just adding a spacer.
now if you used the other type of spacer where it preload the spring i can understand you getting more lift out of a 1in spacer cause now not only did you lift it 1in but you have created more spring tension so you will achieve more lift out of that which is how you achive 2in of lift out of a 1in spacer.

Second , I'm totally confused !! you have a top spacer. My Cornfed leveling kit has a 1/2 " spacer that is exactly like GIG's , which yields 1" of lift. What am I not getting ?

Looks great! How does it ride, handle etc? If you have time could you do one more measurement from the center of the wheel to the fender lip (on the front).

Thats incorrect. He has a Toytec spacer which is a 1/2 inch spacer which yields 1" of lift. You are correct about the tires having an add'l 1/2 , but really has noting to do with spacer issues/lift were talking about .

yea cj i can do that for you and the ride is still the same no change.

falls not to jump all over your shit but gig did say he has a 1in spacer. and if you look at his measurements compared to my starting measurements you will see the spacer gave him 1in of lift and the remaining hieght gained was from his tires and since i used a 2in top spacer and gained exactly 2in of lift in the front i feel its safe to say that when using top mount spacers the size you use is the amount gained. so far its been proven twice.
