Lift Options for Rig That Will Actually Tow

Thanks! They do run forever, strong too. I'm at 130k now so it's still got a little life, it's the rest of the truck you have to worry about haha. I already made the mistake of selling a truck I wish I didn't so I'm not quite ready to do that with this one

Anyway didn't mean to derail your thread. Good luck with your setup, can't go wrong with a v8 4th gen. I could be a little biased though.....

Thanks for the pics man, that explains everything very well.

And nice 12v you've got...those things run forever. We sold a '93 12v back in '03 that had over 320k on it, and the guy who bought it now has over 500k on it and still pulls his camper with it all over the US

Thats what I had through highschool, a 93 12v..250 baby haha miss that truck like crazy! had a a good bit of goodies on it as well running 35's dana 70 rear 60 front... ugghhhh!!! I'll have to purchase another one of these days

Thanks for the info and help guys. Looks like for an '06-'08 V8 Limitied 4x4 I'll go the following route:

ToyTec Ultimate 3" w/2" Superflex Rear Coils
ToyTec 1" Body Lift
Total Chaos, Icon or Camburg Uniball UCAs (whichever is cheaper at the time I intend to buy)
Firestone Rear Airbags
Extended Stainless Rear Brake Lines
Urethane Sway Bar Bushings
Front Sway Bar Drop/Relocates
Extended Rear Sway Bar End Links
SpiderTrax 1.25" Hub-Centric Spacers
255/80/R17 or 285/70/R17 on OEM Wheels

What does everyone think of that setup? I decided might as well go with the full ToyTec Ultimate kit vs. OME due to ease of installation. Not knocking OME in any form or fashion, but I'd rather spend a little more and have more ease of installation of the coilovers. I also decided against the OME 896 rear coils since air bags can be used when needed, and when not loaded having a more comfortable ride. I also like the look of the 255/80/R17 (33x10) tire and realize this tire may require minor trimming and mud flap removal, but may go with the 285/70/R17 and also do some body mount chopping..

You won't need the extended stainless rear brake lines. You don't have to worry about extending those unless you get into extended travel setups with longer rear shocks. The 5100's won't put in you any danger there.

Personally I like a little more meaty tire so I vote for the 285's. The 255's will do better on the road and towing though.

I can't say for certain you'll need a diff drop but since your speaking about using the vehicle for towing regularly I would recommend including it in the kit, its not much more to add it in the purchase as well it doesn't add that much more work. It will definitely relieve some added stress on the CV axles.

You won't really need the wheel spacers either, they will actually add a bit of rubbing to the rear lower area of the front fenders and the body mount. If your just looking for a wider stance, go for it. Though you could get that stance with new wheels down the road that have a greater offset or less backspacing. The aftermarket control arms will give the tire clearance at the top between the tire and the control arm, and push the spindles away from the coil overs a bit for clearance there as well.

yeah definitely chop the body mount back.. no need for that extra metal, you really don't have to plate weld metal back either that's really just preference. I just hit mine with a can of spray paint to make everything uniform looking.

Sounds like a solid plan though best of luck in the hunt for the right 4runner!

You cAn order the OME setup preassembled.

Also look at the DSM/Desert Products UCA's. link to DSM UCA's

Thank you both for the feedback. I've got a few things to make 100% on my Cummins so I should be selling it around the October time frame and then the search begins. I could dump it right now, but wouldn't feel right about selling it knowing in my mind I'd be passing on a problem.

Sounds like an excellent plan... prolly follow really close to u with my 4R's supension as well. Right now I'm all stock (05 Limited 4x4 V8) with a 2" spacer up front and Air Ride 1000 bags out back. I finally went fishing Tuesday and got to pull my 20' Bass Cat and it handled it like a champ. The round trip is around 75 miles and I was tickled to death with it. Pulled it excellent. I also added an extra small trans cooler I had laying around and bypassed the radiator res to keep things nice and cool. Temps never passed 165*, I am very happy with the whole package. Just waiting on the tires to wear out, then I'll be lifting mine as well. GL hunting a 4R down, take ur time and get the right one.

Thanks Ryan, good to hear from someone hauling a boat. And yes, I'll definitely take my time...that'll be the good thing about keeping my Accord and having reliable transportation while hunting. Already looking around is proving it'll be a decently tough search

Check out cars.com, I found mine from there. It was very useful and had carfax's listed too. And don't forget about the forum classifieds.
