lift options, going backwards

Crazy totalitarian regime that is running my province is looking at inacting some draconian truck lifting laws.

It would be if passed....

4" total lift. includes mechanical/suspension lift and tire increase.

2.5" max mechanical/suspension lift
1.5" max tire increase

This is rediculous.

I wouldn't even be able to put on 31's I think on my 1st gen.

Anyhow, some of the most fun I've had is offroading in 31" skinny winter tires. So I think I can live with 31/32’s offroad and using Mr. Winch more often and hope to squeak by and not have “Da Law” notice.

My winter project was going to be installing a better flexing, more comfortable suspension. This might need to actually happen now if I want to drive it on the street.
Mechanical / suspension lift. What options do I have now? I’m already spring over…so technically that is my 2.5…3” lift right there. I think the proposition also says that shackle length can’t be increased either. Longer springs without longer shackles, would it even improve flex if the shackles stay the same length? If yes, then longer springs would give me better flex, more comfort, and would not necessarily need to provide lift. I wouldn’t even really need any if I stay spring over and keep 31/32” tires?
Maybe doing that drive train lift sooner than later could help, but this might not even be a viable option if I’d need to remove my body lift. Shaving the bottoms of my diffs is another idea.
What a shaft? Why don’t they concentrate on running the government, promoting the creations of jobs and investment, education, health, roads… I’d say about all the people I know with lifted trucks have them better maintained than people who run 500$ beaters falling apart and losing parts are they drive.

Ha...even funnier, is that cars that have some type of vehicle stability control, need to get a letter from the car maker that increasing the tire size will not affect the cars stability control system. haha. good one. good luck.

Effing stupid. Sure there are some people that lift their vehicles in unsafe ways, but most lifted vehicles on the road are at least road worthy. They need to work on other things.

Longer spring + same length shackles would mean you'd have to move the shackle hanger and/or spring hangar if you wanted to stay the same height. Truck was spring over from the factory, by the way, so don't count that in your lift calculations.

I say stay on 32s or 33s, modify the suspension so you're as low as you need to be and stay legal, then tub like a mother****er for clearance. You can get lower and keep your flex by frenching your springs or ditching them entirely for a link or radius arm setup.

Stock height is supposed to be 66", by the way. I'm at 73" with OME, 6" shackles, and 33 inch tires, if that helps your calculations at all. I did have to trim and pound a little bit, I could go lower if I shove the front axle forward and tub the rear wells a bit.

Dang, that sucks.

Is that the biggest problem you all have up there is lifted trucks?
I'd bet it has less to do with safety, and more of a backdoor way to
keep you all from getting into the backcountry and wilderness.
Econazi's attacking with a smile on for your well being.

My suggestion, get political. Quick.

Did the OME come with 6 inch shackle. I thought they reused the stock shackle.

I would not disagree with you on the econazi. But we're also fighting the ATV clubs. Who claim public lands and trails for their exclusive use and put up concrete blocks to stop trucks from passing, and getting the police to somehow believe that they have exclusive rights or own the land and give us tickets.

We did get political, finally. In the past 2 years a 4x4 federation was created to work with govt agencies to maintain our access rights to public lands, and old logging roads, hydro power roads etc... We have done pretty good. I think 250km of trail has been reopend and cleared of over growth and mapped.

Now, the other thing shows they have no idea what they are doing is, that VGA cars are allowed on the road. That acronym translates to gravely accidented car, or a totalled car. Cars are cut in half, and welded back together, repaired and given a serial number and sold as VGA. That is somehow OK, but I won't be able to weld shock mounts to a frame that poses a danger. I don't think totalled cars are given the green light to be repaired, have "new" serial numbers issued for them and put back on the road anywhere else but in Quebec.
