Lift Question

I've been browsing Lift and Tire Central (probably read through 150 pages), and I am very interested in adding some lift to my 4runner.

A little background:
I own a 2005 SR5 4WD V6 runner with 121k miles. I don't offroad other than occasionally driving on a farm dirt roads, trails when I travel to snowboard and ice. I have a set of new 265/65/17 all terrain tires. Everything else is stock.

I was thinking about the Daystar 2.5/1.5 spacer lift or a toytec 3" spacer lift. However, I've read that mileage/age is a factor in deciding what to buy.
My question is, what do you guys think about just buying spacers with no coils and no shock? not recommended with older coils/shocks? or fine?

You're fine to do that. It's what I did. However you are due to replace shocks if they haven't been done before. You could cut cost a bit and get the bilsteins and that also lift the front, 5100s.
 
id do the bilsteins with fj springs all around. it'll be a massive improvement over stock at 121k and is very cost effective too
 
Great! I've read a little bit about bilstein and what I can achieve. What height should I be setting the 5100s at?
My ultimate goal is to get a lift of 2.5-3 total. Either I can achieve this with just fj coils and 5100 or should I be looking at spacers in addition?

I've got 3" with 5100's at 2.5, with a 1/4" top plate spacer, the two top plate spacers are easy to install and were only $15 shipped

it can be done, it took me a few months of off and on searching to find some local so i didnt have to ship. i ended up getting fj rears and tacoma progressive front coils on 5100's set at .85 . this should get me to the 2inch lift i want and keeping it in my budget. bad part is i have had the parts for over a month and they are still sitting in my room.

Alright, So i just purchased some Bilsteisn 5100 all around (wanting to do 2.5 in the front). I want to get some FJ coils, but I just can't get any bites so my question to everyone would be, what do you think would be my best choice for coils rear and front outside of FJ coils?
I was considering some Moog front 81088 and Moog rear 81081.

Second, depending on the coils I get, should I consider a 1.5 spacer in the back?

if you do the moogs i would definitely add the spacer in back, maybe guys who have used the moog coils can chime in
 
Okay good to know. I've read that some people with Moog coils in the back (81081) don't even need spacers and other do. Another thing that worries me about those Moog coils is the problem of them not seating properly in the back. So I'm open to suggestion for any other coils.

I used the FJ Moogs in the rear and got 2"of lift. I used TJM coils up front with bilsteins set at 1.75 and got more lift than expected so I am adding the 1.5" spacer in the rear to get rid of the baja look. That should put me about an inch higher in the back compared to the front. Mine also seated ok in the back, they just needed to do a little extra work to achieve it. I checked them after install because I was concerned about the same issue but they looked fine.

Perfect. Just what I was lookin for. Looks like ill probably go with Moog FJ coils front and back, maybe if I find some FJ OEM later down the road ill swap them out

OK, if were in your shoes (requiring new shocks/springs and wanting lift) I would simply skip the spacer kit and get some Old Man EMU 883 (front), 895 (rear) springs and call it a day. It will give the lift you want with a nice, tight/firm ride.
 
I'd go with Taco coils on 5100s and fj rear coils.

lol well thats odd.... did you ever have moog fj coils? maybe t4r is now subliminally mentioning

I actually ended up getting Moog 81108 FJC coils (decent price on amazon) and OME 895 real coils.
I've read a little bit about how the rear OME coils is too much for the 5100s but then others say it rides fine. I think the 81108 front coils are pretty similar in height compared to the OME 883 so I'm thinking without having to change the UCA I put the 5100s at 0.85.

What do yall think?
