Sooooo, I want to buy a lift for my 2016 4runner sr5. I know "do your research before you ask a question, AND I have, but going through 25+ pages of forum, it seems no one is running bilsteins 5100's in all four corners. normally i think people do spacers in the back.. why? I'm young and inexperienced so please feed me knowledge. I want to do as high of a lift as possible, what should I do? I am trying to ball on a budget. Thanks

-ps. i won't be off roading besides back roads and access roads right now, I'm too inexperienced for that and its new.

For specifics I would contact the manufacturer or one of the MANY vendors that sells them.

And a thread asking your question... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/216390-another-bilstein-5100-question.html

Also, this is helpful to learn differences...

The answer you seek is in post #18 of this thread....

Took me about 3 minutes of searching.

You mis-read. People are running Bilstein 5100's on all four corners AND a spacer in the rear. The fronts are coil-overs and the Billy's have adjustable spring seats used to create a lift. But in the rear the shocks are completely separate from the springs, so if you want a lift in the rear you have to either install a spacer or a taller/stiffer spring.

A "high of a lift as possible" is not advisable for your purposes. You can go about 2.5" in the front with the Billy's and OEM springs, taller with taller springs. Anything over about 3" and you have to start doing things like going to aftermarket UCA's to get your alignment in specs and/or lowering the front differential so you don't blow out your CV joints. You can go as much as about 2.5" in the rear before you start overextending the Billys. It will also raise your center of gravity and make on-road driving more dangerous. About 2.5" all around is the max you can do "balling on a budget". Anything else and the costs start going up very very fast.
