lift, tires, and wheels planned but which first.

I'm looking into getting a 3" lift all around. I have also fallen in love with the FN wheels five-star wheels. All are planned to happen this year but I'm not at the ballin' status to do them both at once.

My question is can I get the wheels first at stock height without rubbing till I can get the lift put on. I'm looking at getting Yokohama geolanders for their great sand reviews.

I wanna get on the beach in the next month or two and think the wheels would be a better investment first.

Thoughts?

Really depends how big of a tire you want after lift. 265/75/16 will fit without a lift. There will be some minor plastic rubbing under articulation. If you want bigger tires, like 285, then you need to lift first. Rims, doesn't matter when.

Ohhh forgot to mention. Tires would be 285/75.

I wouldn't see tons of articulation. Unfortunately most everything around me is super flat. I was hoping the -25 offset of the five stars would let me cruise on them till I can lift since the springs I want are on back order.

Not a topic of discussion here. have an order about to be placed for LBJ UBJ OTRE VCGs and rear axle rebuild. Just did a lube overhaul... I'm not new to cars I'm new to trucks. But thanks

The 285's won't fit without a lift. So have to lift first.

You'll rub with 285's, even with a 3" lift.... just have to do a little trimming of your lower plastic bumper valance, and remove your front mudflaps. You will definitely NOT be able to run them without a lift, unless you are willing to cut and pound a lot of your sheet metal.

I, and most people around here, will lift the truck first... then buy the tires. More practical.... unless you want to store the tires until the lift is on....

Add a new rad or external tranny cooler to that list (assuming your truck is an auto), and that's a pretty good baseline list.

As for your original question, you'll need to lift before those tires will fit, might as well wait and get the rims with the tires.

Already have a cooling overhaul including mech fan clutch, rad cap, radiator, a few flushes, upper/lower rad hose, thermostat, heater cores, and extermal B/M tranny cooler.

Would a body lift be a temporary solution while I wait for the lift parts I want become available?

Where is the rubbing an issue? pinch weld? fender liner? flares? I dont mind some minor "fitment" adjustments.

I've run 265/75 on stockers with ET15, the Fivestarts have -25ET for those unfamiliar. From what I've read (and understand) it seems that would clear the UCA issues people have had running 285's with no lift.

I'd avoid the body lift, unless you really need to get some extra clearance after the initial lift.

I'm running 285's, with approx. 2.5" in the front and 3.5" to 4" in the back. Everyone one this forum, has had to either lift, or pound the crap out the fender wells in order fit 285's.

Here's some pics of my setup... I'm running complete TRD Tundra Strut asseblies, with a Toytec Top plate spacer and a front Diff Drop in the front... and some LC 8 Wrap coils in the back with some Skyjacker lift shocks. (should upgrade to Rear LC (Landcruiser shocks) in the future though...

I remember I had to lift to fit my 285 BFG KM2's. I put around 2.5" spacer lift when I fit them. And I still hacked away at the corner plastic in my front wheel wells.

Also, where in VA are you?

If you really want the tires first then do like just stated. Get a spacer lift and run that. You won't gain anything out of it but you will be able to run the tires. They are cheap but effective.

I'm getting some 265/75/16s, most likely Hankook Dynapro. As for rims, I was looking at KMC XD 16s. I have a limited, so was wondering what offsets are good for me?

Stuntmonkey I ran 265/75/16 (Kelly Safari A/T's) on a stock 16x7 ET15 rim with no lift/rubbing. I have a 97 Limited with running boards(at the time). I'm not familiar with the widths and offsets available for the wheels you're looking at to tell you "which" would work best.

PM me details and I'll offer my suggestions
