Lift, Tires, Rims - Help and Advice Needed

Hi everyone, I am looking to upgrade and mod a little to my 4Runner. I would like to put in a small but nice lift about 2" to 2.5" and possibly 3". I would like to switch out the factory rims and get some nice black rims. I also would like to put some nice but decent priced tires on the new rims. With the lift I hope to gain a little better clearence and be able to fit a little bigger tires. I plan to get an off road bumper so the lift will need to be able to sustain the weight of the new bumper - not sure if the weight matters or not but I think it would.

My vehicles specs:

Make: Toyota
Model: 4Runner
Trim: SR5
Color: Silver
Engine: 4.0 V6
Rims: 17" Factory 5 spoke I believe
Tires: All season

My wants:

Rims: 17" Black Rims
Tires: A/T
Lift: 2", 2.5" or 3"

***I am unsure on what exactly to look for or how to find aftermarket rims. Example: Lug Pattern? Wheel Size? All I know is they have 5 lugs and I believe 5 spoke. I am unsure on the tire size, all I know is they are 17".

***What lift would you recommend? I need something that is going to last and keep strong. I dont mind using spacers but I need them to be good, take weight and not go bad in a year or so.

***When recommending a good tire and tire size, please consider I would be lifting the vehicle as well.

But I need a simple question answered by you or anyone who can answer on here. If I plan to put a front bumper on like a ARB or something of that sort. Will spacers work or will I need to go bigger than spacers? Thanks

I just need to know for the best price what could I do to allow for an aftermarket bumper? I need the lift but dont want the aftermarket bumper to weigh down. THanks

I would recommend doing some serious research on your desired lift and tires as all you will get here is simply what others are running and/or what they "prefer".

However, in short:

Your wheels are 17x7.5, +30mm offset, 6x5.5" (or 139.7mm) lug pattern. You will need to consider wheel width and offset/backspacing when running larger tires. Most people run 285/70/17s when lifting around 2.5+ but also have to do trimming depending on the wheel factors mentioned above.

I can't speak to an aftermarket bumper's weight from personal experience. However, if you search you will find that the factory suspension won't properly support the extra weight. Because of this, simply adding spacers isn't ideal. Look into OME 884/885 front coils or actual Coilovers (Radflo, Icon, King, etc...). The coilovers will be the best (and most expensive) as they can be cranked to different ride heights in order to compensate for weight changes. With all this said, its your truck, so you have to find your "best/ideal" lift in the benefit/cost ratio.

Maybe I missed it, but what year is your runner?
The first link you posted doesn't state anything about being able to support extra weight in the front.
Here's the kit that I got. It mentions adding additional weight.

Maybe I missed it, but what year is your runner?
The first link you posted doesn't state anything about being able to support extra weight in the front.

Oh wow that's not bad timing at all honestly. And honestly I have seen some girls who can work on vehicles better than some men and still be able to look good at the same time. lol.

I just changed the spark plugs yesterday and was told it would be like a 2 hour job or something but took me about 45 mins to an hour. The instructions I followed on this forum had you taking off more things than what was needed. I found it to be a pretty simple and easy job.

I guess I just mind end up going with the lift you went with. Looks good and a good price and that works for me.

You really should use the search bar and read up on all the information that already exists on this website. You really gotta read up on as much as possible, see what all your options are, and then make an educated decision as to what will be good for you needs.

I know the Suspension sticky tread is long, but I can all but guarantee if you read up on every single page and every single post, you will get all the answers to your questions.

When all else fails, THEN you post up a thread asking a question that hasn't already been answered.

We see these "suspension help/recommendations" threads pop up AT LEAST once a day, if those people would just read and research on the existing content, that number would greatly dwindle.

Sometimes, it's not as easy as a clear cut, black & white answer to these suspension questions.

It's true. It took me a lot of reading... a whole lot of reading. Not only hear but on the Interent as well. It was harder putting everything together then it was doing the actual process. You learn a lot about everything else that you wouldn't imagine would be involved in a lift.

Could I get this bumper with using spacers?

It says the bumper only weighs 70lbs

Only asking because I have heard in order to put some off market bumpers on you need a full suspension lift but not sure with this bumper only being 70lbs.
