I'm saying its going to be such a small difference, if at all, you wont notice.

Aerodynamics change when lifted - yes.

I did my lift and tires at the same time and lost 2 mpg so I do not know about a lift alone. Any time you cause more drag you have to loose some mpg at higher speeds.

I've got an 06 v8 with a 3/2 lift and 275/65/18 duratracs. Before the lift and tires I was avg. 18-19 hand figured and now after about 1000 miles I'm avg. Just over 17 hand figured in a 50/50 mix Hwy/city. Over thanksgiving I made a 450 mile round trip all Hwy and avg. Just over 19 for the trip

A freind of mine went from 265 to 285 on his 2009 Tacoma V6 and has regretted it ever since. He lost 2 mpg, power, and he says the transmission is constantly in and out of overdrive on slight grades. It is not really much more capable. Just gained a little clearance.

Thanks for the reply though I would think that the wheel wells and inner fenders are different in design in the tacoma and therefore clearance might be different than the 4runner. I am concerned with rubbing here.

I was also looking at the 255/75 size which is just .5 inches smaller footprint. but a tad taller than stock I am guessing this size would affect mileage less since there is a smaller foot print than stock which means reduced friction, but it would still be worse mileage than stock since the tires would be overall bigger.

any thoughts on these two tire sizes?

I'm averaging 14 on my 4x4 v6 and thats 90 percent city..... it dropped close to 3mpg with the lift and tires.

Wow, interesting. I haven't checked mine by hand calculations but stock i was getting 20.9 on the mileage guage and after daystar and 265 70 17 ntg's im getting 20.7. not much change on the meter. I will check it manually and find out.

06 sr5 stock tires 265/65/17 mixed conservative driving with 91oct - 21-22. stepped up to 265/70/17 AT's and it dropped to 17-18mpg

larger size aside, theres also a mpg difference when switching from an all season tire to an aggressive AT.

Also those AT tires are much heavier than a stock tire. All added up, tread design, taller and heavier sucks up more gas and power.

this was touched on once before but only one guy replied. are you guys taking into account that a bigger tire is going to throw the odometer and speedometer off (make it read less than real world)? It seems like just by the lack of mention that many of you are not and that could be seriously skewing these results.

bringing this thread back a bit....

I see some people running 285 70 17s... (I am still looking at these options I am known to research stuff adnauseum) and I am looking at a bigger tire (than stock) that will not rub while fully flexed with a 3/2 lift, and after market bumpers. Is a 285 too much? I want it to look sort of mean a capable and actually have it be capable!

It lost 2 mpg, is a lot dogier and it downshifts a lot more going up hill. He wishes he would have got 275s, 265s were stock. also if you add heavy of road bumpers that is a lot more weight added. May be time to regear after 285s and heavy bumpers etc. If all you care about is looks then have at it.
