lifted v6 or lifted v8

For those of you with the lifted v6 what kind of mileage are you guys getting?

I have an '04 V6 4x4

Before the lift I'd easily get 400 miles on a tank and still have three gallons left (about 20 MPG). I could push 21 MPG on road trips.

I got a lift and put slightly bigger tires on (265/70/17) and now my range is 360 miles with a few gallons to spare. Recently, on a road trip of 800 miles, I had it in 4h most of the time due to the weather and I got nearly 19 MPG.

So I lost a few MPGs.


I'm happy with the V6, but if I were going with anything bigger than the tires I mentioned, I'd vote for a V8.

That's good to know. what size lift and tires are you running?

Lift is a 3/2. 3 front, 2 rear. Tires 285's as listed in my signature.....

I run a speedo healer to fix speedo. Don't listen to anyone running larger tires and reading the dash display. That number just makes the driver feel better but it's not accurate. You need a corrected speedo, then divide miles on that tank into gallons to fill it. Only way to really know. Lowest I've seen is 13 mpg town on my truck. 18-19 on a lift and tires? No way.

Want fuel efficiency? We have a vw touareg tdi that gets 24/29 real world mpg.

thanks again for the updates...I'm not to worried about fuel economy otherwise I would not buy a suv. with that being said I am very cheap and I want to get the most bang for the buck. I currently get about 16 mpg's with my wrangler, so I can expect about that with a 4runner. I will be going with a 3/2 spacer or ome 3 inch lift, not sure the exact tire size yet. I have had really good luck with duratrac's though
