lifting a 2 wheel drive third gen?

any one know any secrets for a body lift?every shop bids around 1200-1500 dollars.simply couse its two wheel drive.i guess thats why you dont lift 2 wheel drives..but gf insist on bigger tires..idk why though.lol

What size tire does the GF want? I wouldnt do a body lift just to accomodate tires, especialy not on a 2wd.

i would go to a more 'small time' shop that is trustworthy. In highschool i got quotes for a BL on my first truck(3in) and 4 wheel parts stores quotes $3000 and id have to leave my truck for 9 days(thats how long the process would take). With a local mechanic that i normally brought my truck to, cost roughly $350 and took 2 days.

I was so pissed at the first shop and they quoted the same thing for a suspension lift(just installation) on my 4runner a weeks ago. But, what you can you do? If you don't like it, go elsewhere(or report them to BBB).

Good luck finding a reasonable installtion price. You could always try and tackle it yourself with a friend or two also!

i thought body lifts where cheap! 2k??? last time i saw a BL set up it was like 200 bucks!

i think with 4runners they have to seperate and lift off the whole body from the frame

I put a BL on an 2000 a couple years back and it was extremely easy. Had a friend help me, we did it in around 4-5 hours. No, you don't have to remove the entire body from the frame. Follow 4crawler's write up and you are good to go. Before I did it I called a few places to get a quote on install, 700 bucks was the cheapest quote I received along with a bunch of whining about how much of a hassle it is and how long it takes. It's all a bunch of BS. Do it yourself if you are going to do it and you will realize how easy it is. All you need is a hi-lift jack and a socket set.

Yeah it's simple and cheap. Undoo all body mount, lift one side, slide in lift pucks, bolt them in and go to the other side. Then you just wory about sterring and shift linkage.

I wouldnt waste your money on a body lift if I were you, especially on a 2wd. I would just get a spacer and coils for the rear and you will be able to run 285s. Here is a link to a good less expensive lift kit from toytec. Good luck

I got a set of spring spacers from [URL="http://www.fatbobsgarage.com"]www.FatBobsgarage.com [/URL]for $125.00 and it actually lifted the truck almost 3" and took a friend and I 3 Hours to do it.

Then just get it aligned.

I love it!
