Light bar choices?

Fairly new to this forum, so searching skills still suck! :becky:

My son has a 2003 and wants a light bar. He's been looking at some that only cost around $65.00 bucks. While I have zero expereince with light bars, I do know that you get what ya pay for, and $65.00 bucks seems very cheap to me!

Can any of you steer me in the right direction?

Some general info:

He does "zero" offroading, but wants to slowly get into it.

Which placement is a better choice: High up on the roof, or lower on the front bumper?

Led's, Halogen, etc.

Anybody who's knowledgeable with these lights, if you could give me a lesson on the ins & out's, I would greatly appreciate it! :yo:

2003 is 4th gen.

I generally don't recommend getting a light bar until you've performed a projector retrofit ($160) and then deciding if you even need more light. Most people (myself included) are completely satisfied with the huge amount of light from a retrofit.

You can safely and legally use a projector headlight everyday. However, the opportunities to use a lightbar safely and legally are few and far between, not money well-spent imo.

There are also mileage penalties with light bars, mounting concerns, etc. None of which affect drivers with projector retrofits.

I recommend a 55w, 4300k conversion kit available here or here.

I bought a $45 dollar light bar off of Amazon, like a year ago. I think it does amazing and I would rather buy a cheap one off of Amazon, rather than a $300 one from Rigid. Mine is mounted on the roof.

I agree with the retro fit. but is ur looking for the look check out PIAA they make a amazing light bar that is super well designed.

Fantastic response and exactly what I was hoping someone said. He has "No Clue" why he wants one, just that he does! I will send him this post and hope he "see's the Light"....:biggrin1: Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I think he's looking at something cheap like that as well, but as you can see, I'm trying to steer him away from that. But....if he insists, it is his money to do what he wants with.
