Light On Climate Control Cluster Went Out.......

So I installed a cd player, and when I put the climate control cluster panel back on and checked that everything was working, I noticed that the light on the far left cluster (the one that adjust the blower speed) is out. The only items that light up on it is the arrows on the very edge. I took the cluster back out and unscrewed the blower control cluster, but the light bulbs are built into the circuit board in the cluster. So I guess my question is what should I do next? Do you guys think I can replace the bulb (whichever one it is) or will I have to buy a whole new control cluster? If I do have to buy one......how much money can I expect to pay? It looked like a very expensive piece. Also, all the other control cluster were lit up. Just the "low" "medium" "high" and "fan" lights were out. Thanks for the help and any suggestions.

Man you just saved me a post. I had never driven a 4runner at night and when I bought my 2004 on saturday night I noticed that the only lights on the climate control that light up are the arrows. Now I know I need to replace some bulbs or replace the board. I am going to call toyota tomorrow I will post any anwser I get.
 
Yeah, the words/symbols should be lit up also, along with the arrows. I just did a search and found some info on 3rd gen climate control LED's, but nothing on 4th gen. Let me know what you find out from the dealership though. Hopefully it's an easy and inexpensive fix. I read where people were paying 600-800 dollars for all new clusters. OUCH!!

Just replace the lamps located through the holes in the black plastic back. They are gray or white plastic discs with a depressed plus sign in them. Just take a screw driver and turn them about a 1/2 turn to release them. While they are out take an ordinary pencil w/ eraser and clean the oxidation / discoloration on the circuit board where the bulbs mount. Dealer sells the right bulbs for this.

There are other "bulbs", however they are actually LEDs, and they are soldered to the circuit board. Changing them out is definitely do-able, but if you have several out, I'd have to say there may be more going on than just a burnt out LED.

I swapped two of those a/c bulbs today at the stealership. They were $6.77 each, expensive little bas****s. Anyway, they had to special order them so they will take a day or two to get here.
 
I always thought those were LEDs! I'm kinda surprised that Toyota is still using bulbs for the dash lights.

Does anyone know if the instrumentation uses bulbs or LEDs?
 
I have a light in these 2 areas (in white) that are flickering and I've search and this post is the closest I've found to my problem. Can anyone help me out?

funny---Same exact thing happened to me - 04, got it friday, just noticed last night that the fan lights are out... so was it just the bulb?
 
Controls panel

Does anyone know how to remove the controls panel? I removed the screw from inside of the tip out but the panel did not budge. Are there other screws?

I think I remember reading on another thread that you have to pull on it pretty hard to get it to come loose. But I have not tried it myself (so dont take my word for it). I cant find that thread right now. sorry. Maybe someone else can post the link for you. -Scott
 
Remove the single screw in the tip out compartment, then pull it out. Start pulling harder at the top where the temperature and milage numbers are, then when it starts to move pull the bottom where the screw was.
 
Light on Climate Control

Thanks, guys for your help to replace the bulb on the climate control panel. The dealer wanted $180 to replace the bulb. I followed your instructions and had the panel off in less than 10 minutes.

Yes, take the screw out from behind the pop-open door, and tug a little. My panel pulled out with a little force, but came out without damage. (I pulled from below).

There are four friction slots on the panel, two at the bottom and two at the top. The bulb was then easy to access after I removed the wiring harness.

The dealer wants $7 something for the bulb, and they have to order it. But, it sure beats $180. My wife was going to take it in today, but I signed up on the forum and you helped greatly!!
 
The bulb part number for the light at the climate control is 90010-09017. The two for the indoor temp and outdoor temp and clock are "C" bulbs on the schematic and on the back of the bulb. There is another one that is an "A", which is a different part number.

Toyota list price is $5.98.

were you able to fix the problem? i have the same problem on my 03.. only the driver's side flickers.
