Lights above bajarack

Just wanted some quick opinions. Look at the following link to bajarack's website. I am considering installing 4 PIAA 520 lights mounted to the lower portion of the front of the roof rack. I cannot mount higher due to garage clearance at home. Would love opinions on the look.

I think it would look great. The BajaRack already looks awesome, I think lights would make it look all that much better!
 
I say go for it. IMO the lights would look less obtrusive mounted on the lower part of the rack rather than on the top bar.
 
I agree, ...., do it. I have KC lights on my front grill guard, but when I get my winch (hopefully), I will probably re-locate them to my roof rack as well. The higher mounted lights will give you a wider field of visibility at night on the trails also.

I like that look also, however I am concerned about actual function. They would be mounted far enough back that they would have to be pointed almost straight out otherwise the roof line would get in the way. You can always mount them and if you can get them to aim right then I will think about spending my money to mount some up top also. I do like the look just want to make sure they would be usefull.
 
my concern is the install. 2 options, one is a clean and time intensive look where a hole is drilled, the other is where the wiring is visible on outside of vehicle. both would have a disconnectable harness so the lights would come off with the rack if/when needed. hmm...

That would be my concern as well, ...., when you figure it out, let me know. I like making things dis-connectable. My CB is that way. So I would probably run the wire up the passenger side column and out to the roof towards the lights, that is how my CB antenna is done on the driver side.
 
have you seen the hella 4 inch hid's? i think they would look sick on the upper rack with the normal hella 500ff's on the bumper, that's what i'm going for, i already have the hella's mounted to teh grill guard and am in the process of making a wiring harness to fit the stock fog light switch for them

has the green light in the back to match the rest of the cluster and fits perfectly in to the stock switch pop outs. if you do it right you can run a small fuse panel and have all of the lights be able to be disconnected and running from the same line of wires, should cut the loom size in half.

the light's i'm thinking about are something like this. careful they have some super expensive ones like $750 for 2 lights! lol (who would spend that on lighting? you could duck tape 75 mag lights to your truck for that lol)

I have the 6 trail lights mounted on my rack...I ran the wires under the drivers side door sill and up the B-pillar then out at the top of the rear door.

I really didn't like the idea of drilling into my roof, plus I wanted it to be reverseable if I ever uninstalled the lights.

I found waterproof connectors with Summit Racing that I used for the rooftop so I could remove the rack easily
 
that would look super sweet. defiantly do it. if only Coleman's rack had light brackets like that :(
 
IMO if this was my rig I would do this.

Baja rack + HID lights mounted on the lower part of the Baja rack & I would even add 2 more lights to the rear of the Baja rack :) Or..... You could add 4 HID lights up front 2 on each side & 2 in the rear a total of 8 HID fog lights. Reason being would be for camping or late night 4x4'in :)

im just waiting on a call back from the guy at the 4x4 shop to give me a price on the install...still debating between drilling for the clean look versus leaving wiring exposed a bit, but much less labor intensive.
 
When I ran a basket/light combo, I ran the power wire for all 4 front lights down the driverside door:

BTW, I've run lights w/ all kind of different light patterns on the rear of that rack, and I've found that the "flood pattern" worked the best. It did the best at throwing light immeadiately behind the vehicle (plus all around). Here's the set I had: http://www.4by4connection.com/pibaclig.html. They're designed to mount upside down, so when you mount them right side up, it's a good idea to seal them. (They had a drain hole on the top of the light IIRC for upside down mounting. Mounted right side up, water can sneak in and stay.)
 
thanks for posting those pics, that gives me a good idea of what not drilling will look like. How does the rubber seal do on your doors now that it has been compromised with the wires being shut in the door?
 
Seal still worked great. You have a metal lip under the rubber seal, so any water that leaks between the roof and seal of the door, still cannot get into the vehicle...instead it just runs into this channel and exits the vehicle. The lip keeps water from coming inside. Oh and of the 4 front lights, I tapped all 4 power wires into 1 wire and that is what you see covered in wire loom. I did the same for the rear. Tap the 2 power wires into one wire and run down behind the weather seal.
