lights wiring, go through firewall?

I've been searching for the best way to install the switch for my new lights and am stumped. Haven't seen the right thread yet in the search box.

Do you guys go through the firewall to run wires for your AUX lights? They came with a small push button switch, but I think i'll be picking up an AOB switch for a cleaner look inside.

Is there a tip or specific thread I haven't seen that I should be looking at for the best way to run my switch wiring? I'm brand new to ever doing this so I apologize in advance for my newbiness.

Look at the wore loom/rubber boot to the right of the master cylinder. You might be able to slip it through there. Lots of people slide a wire through tjere for the VSC/ATRAC off mod on the 2003s.

Is that the only way? Or am I reading correct that you can tap wires in the fuse panel under the steering wheel with an AOB switch? Although doing this does sound a little complicated. Pretty sure I want to be able to turn the lights on/off independent of all other lights.

I just ran a harness for a few switches through that grommet, there's a little nipple that you can cut off and run right through there. I just ran fuses in line with the little all weather adapters from autozone. That's probably the easiest way to do it I can post pics in a bit when my phone's charged up a bit.

The nipple on the grommet will actually tear off perfectly on its own if you pull on it straight out.

No matter what you'll still have to run wires from the switch in-cab, to the engine bay.

then do a search on here for wiring aux lights

Tapping into fuse panel will give you the option of lights being able to turn on whenever you want, or only if/when the engine is running, depending on which fuse slot you use.

A voltage meter is a good $10 investment as well.

With AOB switches if your putting it in the open slots on the center console the 4th wire needs to be tapped into i believe if i remember right the blue white wire for the AOB switch for it to turn on when you use the parking lights. Ill double check as i just installed mine two days ago

so how did this work out for you - i just purchased an aob switch and am contemplating wiring up my aux lights myself. how did you wire up the 4th wire and how did you do the overall wiring thru the firewall and fusebox etc?

the 4th wire isn't wired up, basically my switch is always on which is a little annoying but I just haven't messed aroun with trying to figure out how to only make it be on when the lights are on.

As far as getting through the firewall, there are some small rubber bulbs on the engine side, just snip one off and feed your wire through. A coat hanger or scrap wire will come in handy when doing this.
