Limited on the beach with 245s?

I have a stock 2014 4Runner Limited. I go to the North End/Freeman park several times a month.

I have had no problems with the 245/60/20 tires, with both the Bridgestone Duelers & now Michelin Premier LTX.

I have yet to air down or use anything other than 4Hi.

Truly beautiful area. And yes I'm aware I jinxed myself with this post & will have to air down/get stuck on my next trip out.

My friends choose not to air down as well. They drive Xterras & Silverados/Sierras. In other news I've realized I need more 4Runner driving friends.

BTW using 4LO when really not necessary and/or not airing down just puts unnecessary strain, wear, tear on the engine and drive train components.

Here is why you need to know what you are doing and be aware of what is going on around you.

The first picture I made at The Point about 4 hrs prior to high tide. You can see the wash between the front of my vehicle and the red pickup is getting close to topping the bar. Note the blue canopy to the right.

2nd picture is sometime later from opposite direction. Again note the blue canopy where I was parked. They allowed the wash to come over the bar, giving a quicksand effect under the truck. Here's your sign as Bill Engval says.

Yesterday, my wife said something about the water level; people were standing out real far on a sand bar. I said "yeah, high tide isn't until 5pm, I checked before we left". She gave me a very disappointed look. But I'd rather look like a nerd than lose a truck, lol.

My Grandpappy taught me many moons ago to be very careful driving near the water on wet sand where there were no tire tracks. :nerd:

I know this is a relatively old thread, but I'm heading to the outer banks next week and wanted to get some opinions. (This is also my first post, so be gentle. :cheers: )

I recently ran the stock tires bald on my '18 LTD and decided to go with a more aggressive looking tire. After reading on the forum a bit, I decided to bite the bullet and go with tires recommended for 7.5" wide rim (Nitto A/T's 275/55/20) while repping the OEM rims (7.0").

I've had no trouble with them and love the way they look. Rubbing was eliminated with the heat gun mod to the front bumper, but I'm worried about lowering the tire pressure and what might happen with the tire beads on sand. Any thoughts?
