Limited Rim maximum tire width?

So i've had my limited wheels powdercoated for a couple months now and absolutely love them. Once my firestones wear out, i'm going to buy some Goodyear Duratracs. I know i can fit 275.65.18's because i know a guy with them on his stocks. can i go larger, width wise, on my stock rims?

I probably wouldn't go any wider than a 295 on stock wheels. Fitting them, note that's a different story. The suspension sticky has info on tire sizes, that should be a start. Also, look at tires to Swede what size they're offered in. Then, use this calculator to convert the size. It'll give you an approved rim width range (as will the manufacturers site). Stock wheels are 7.5" wide.

What, are you planning on going over 295s now? Ha. You could "technically" go a little larger, but I wouldn't want that much sidewall bulge. Also, I would imagine one would have to be more careful when airing down if running much over the recommended max tire width. I've seen at least one member on here run 35x12.5 on the factory SE 17s...which are 7.5" wide as well.

What i'm going to try to do, is try the 285 BFG's, and if those don't work, move down to the 275 Duratracs. But with my rim only being 7.5 width, it's been said on here a few times that it wouldn't be able to even support a 285...
 
I have 295s on my limited 18's. I initially was concerned about the .5" but not anymore. I searched the net and found plenty of people running wider tires under the minimum width. The_josh that's on both here and toyot120 has ran 35's on his 17s without problems AND he runs them hard. 285s are a pretty standard size so you won't have any problems. With 285 you'll have UCA contact unless you get spacers
 
ok, thanks, that's great to hear!! I do have Spidertrax, so no rubbing the UCAs right? Thinkin theres going to be lots of trimming tho...
 
No issues with the UCA. Fender liner, corner of front bumper, front mud flaps, and possibly the body mount will be things to address.
 
Yea, quite a bit of rubbing. You still thinking 285 BFG AT's? These are pretty square, will likely have more rubbing than most. None of the rubbing is anything I'd say is major, with the exception of the body mount because most don't have the tools to fix that.
 
I'd like to try for sure, i love that width. there just really aren't many options at all for the 285 on 18s... But if we get them mounted and there's a ton to chop, i'll just drop to the 275 duratracs and move the fender liners forward and be content
EDIT: My big inspiration for fitting the 285's comes from http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/62675-new-toytech-3-lift-285-70r17-bfg.html . I love that shot of him up on the rock, always have thought it was the perfect look

You may not need the chop, I'd prepare for it though. I agree, the 285's look awesome. The 275/65/18 is very close in size though. My guess would be that you'll need the same amount of trimming with the 275's, just won't have to get quite as aggressive (excluding body mount chop).
 
haha it is killing me seeing all these guys with the 285/70/17 duratracs, i would kill to have 17's instead of 18s right now, or just to have goodyear make some 285s for the 18s... yea i'm prepared to cut a little and move some around, jus don't wanna cut it all to pieces:/
