Limited Without Sunroof

Seems like you are over thinking things, kinda like an engineer would tend to do. I had a 2011 Sienna AWD and it was unstoppable in the snow. Nannies were not an issue and it saw its share of snow and ice and everything else. Can't imagine your FJ seats are more comfortable than a Sienna's.

You are spot on. I over think things way too much. It's like a disease that I can't stand about myself, but it's always there. Love the FJ 6spd manual with the full time transfer case. But I know I can't handle the manual with the back and leg pain I've aged into.

But yes, the FJ seat, for my size, weight, and injuries, is much more comfortable for me than the 2011 and up Sienna. What draws me to the 4Runner is that it's the best seat I've found, of ANY vehicle, that works for me.

What is really good to discover is that holding down the TRAC button 3 seconds disables VSC and TRAC! Without this discussion I would have never learned this.

Years ago I lived in Ohio. I had a full size Bronco with part time 4x4. I remember many times taking off when the ice/snow was spotty. If you did not notice the ice then it spun like crazy in 2 wheel drive, after 10 feet or whatever it would be dry and all was back to normal. It was a pain putting it in 4x4 constantly and trying to guess when it was needed. Same is true taking off from a gravel road onto a paved road. With full time 4x4 you do not even have to think about it, it is always ready. Wives especially like it because they do not want to full with putting it in 4x4 then remembering to take it back out. This is one reason the Limited was my only choice.

Yes, this is what I have to do with my '08 FJ - constantly put it in and out of 4WD!

Oh, while your job sounds important and you have to be places I also have to be places for my job too. As a matter of fact most of the guys reading this depend on their vehicle to get them to places just like you.

I am sorry you took offense to part of my post. I was simply trying to explain my situation. My supervisors care nothing of my safety, so I have to ensure my own with my vehicle purchases.

Just remember to be completely stopped, it will not work if you are moving. Then you can do donuts or break traction all you want :lookout:


*As for the seat height situation, if it were me. I would either :

1) Modify the seat to sit lower to accommodate height needed

2) Pay a shop to do option 1 if you are incompetent


I would not choose something else that I didn't want just because of this fact, make it work!

I'm 6'9" tall.

I used to be 6'10" tall but 4 back surgeries over 20 years has had the effect of the loss of an inch.

Me thinks if the FJ is working stick with it, or get the sunroof and don't close it. :car:

2014 LE come standard with moon roof from the factory (japan).

no way around this.

2014 GX460 - 38
2014 Sequoia - 34.8
2014 Land Cruiser / Lexus LX570 - 38.3

2014 4Runner - 39.3 w/o moonroof (38.6 with moon roof)


so no matter which vehicle you want to swap to, they have even less room than a 4runner with a moon roof

That is crazy! The Sequoia is 38.3 though.

According to this site, my headroom options are very limited and very expensive:

If the next Gen 4Runner headroom doesn't have another inch, I probably won't get one. I mean, I can tolerate it, but if I sit with proper posture my head touches. I'm 6'4 and long in the legs. Looks like a larger SUV or a car would be my options.

You seem like a Toyota guy but you may have to go German. It's another benefit of a car built by taller people. Leg room and head room in an ML will be more than enough for you. Get the off-road package and you'll be golden. Yes, it'll cost more than a 4r. But same price as a GX. You'll get the fanboy crowd who will dismiss this but anyone who does so has issues. No car is perfect. Luckily there are many options.
