Liquidmantis's modest [boring] build thread

Snorkel day! Fairly terrifying to start. That initial use of the auto center punch felt so wrong. Which was topped once i started drilling. After that the big hole was a piece of cake.

Amazing build. Not boring at all. Subtle understated with the right choice of mods. Now you need a diff breather for those water crossings.

Great build. I don't have the guts (yet) to drill into the body.

Gonna have to check out the SSO bumper.

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. The ARB diff breather relocation kit was one of the very first things I did. I don't think I ever mentioned it in this thread, but the kit was just long enough to route both breathers up to the firewall.

Love your build. Excellent choices!

Still happy with the SSS bumper/winch combo? Been itching to pull the trigger for some time on the same set up. Any particular pros/cons of note?

Again - awesome work!

Thanks! Sorry, haven't been on the forum for some time. Yeah, the bumper and winch has been great, although I haven't had any occasion to use it yet. It looks great though. :D No real cons though, other than it being a bit of a squeeze, and I wouldn't go any other route than a wireless remote winch. My only concern is that removing the winch line will likely require dropping the bumper. It might be possible to remove the rope, but feeding the eyelet through the slit in the spool required some grunt power, and putting it on while the bumper is mounted is likely more hassle than it's worth.

Nice...Im looking at getting the same size tires :)

Think *hard* about making the plunge to 285s :) I'll likely step up when it's time for replacement. But, I can't complain at all about the 275s.

Great thread and great looking upgrades. You must be single! LOL

Thanks! And no, married for... 15 years in a few months actually. Although I feel single when it comes to camping. :) At least my sons like camping, if not so much the travel and off-roading aspects.

Being here in Denver and driving i-70 pretty frequently, I'm tired of the truck searching for gears on large inclines (Eisenhower Tunnel if I'm being specific). Have the 275s treated you well? And what has led to you leaning towards 285s?

Thanks!
Nick

Well, I just take the truck for what it is. There are some threshold speeds where it can go either way in gear selection, but I've taken a non-aerodynamic brick and strapped crap to it, so I just accept it as it is. The 275s have been fine for me, I put them on basically immediately so I really don't even know the the vehicle on stock sized street tires. But if you're doing 275 K02s, you're already making most of the weight jump to 285s, and 285s are just a hair[/b] subtly better when lifted and built up. I'd do 285s if I was doing it again, but I've got no reason to replace my 275s early -- unless you're looking to buy them :D

Fair enough. That makes total sense and that may sway me towards 285s but hey if you want to upgrade early and let those 275s go away for cheap I won't complain! At least then I'll have a competent tire for the late season snow I'm sure Denver is going to get this year haha.

Wow, I haven't been around here in a long time. I just recently installed a Rigd hitch mount tire swing after deliberating about a rear bumper for the longest time, and upgraded my old Kenwood DNX893s to an oversized DNR1007XR for Gaia/Trails Offroad/OnX maps. I'll have to take some photos of the swing arm, but here's the freshly installed head unit.
