Locating the chassis stamp

Hey there,

I have a 1st gen toyota 4runner, and after having it stored in a garage for a few years, have decided to put it historical number plates as the insurance here in spain is a lot cheaper.

To complete the documentation, they need to see the chassis number stamped on the chassis due to new legislation, but after searching both the car and the internet all I have found is the VIN plate at the back of the engine bay.

I've searched all around the wheel arches and the inside edge of the chassis but cant see the number stamped anywhere, does anyone know where it is?

Passenger side frame, just rear of the front suspension. This is where it is on my '87 xtra cab, should be the same for the 4 runner.

Not sure if yours is a different spec than US models, could be in a different spot, so if its not there on that raised plate, check the driver's side too, mine has a plate there also but nothing stamped on it. Mine has the stamp on the passenger's side, RN67xxxxxxx, this should match the plate under the hood and in the door I believe...

Thanks for the replies, just had a look and I can sort of see the vague shape of a rectangle on the passenger side, but there's no numbers visible on it, same goes for the drivers side.
There is however a sort of gray squarified oval near there, it's hard to describe, I'll try to upload a picture tomorrow morning.

Anywhere else it could be?

Vin Scratching

Just take some light sand paper and clean the area then take a pencil and shave it half way open on one side so you can see the lead (or graphite now) and rub it across the plate with a piece of white paper over it. youll see the numbers. and that also should be acceptable.
