Lock Right Part Number?

Is it 1615 or 1620? I have a 1615 from a 8.4" Tacoma rear end and want to see if it will work.

Marlin Crawler's site shows the same locker for the 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd gen 4Runners:

The only other info I could find was in regards to 1st and 2nd gen 4Runners so that wasn't much help. They use part #1620

Marlins site is wrong on that one. Tacoma's rear diff is an 8.4 and you do have the right part for that. However our 4runner have a toyota 8" v6 diff. Use the lockright they say fits the older v6 diffs. Its right above the tacoma option and that will fit.

If you want conformation that you need the same locker for 1986-at least 2002 4runners look at aussie lockers website and check out what their diff finder deal says. Same PN for almost every 4runner.

And here is the why.

Tacoma 8.4 diffs have a totally different carrier. It only contains 1 cross pin and 2 spider gears. THis is a pretty standard design. However the v6 rear end in our 4runners is the standard v6 2 cross pin design. it makes a x with the pins and have 4 spider gears. Totally different internals between the two. And besides that the actual bold pattern for the 3rds is different. The taco 3rd has larger studs and it also has a truss between the bearing caps.

Thanks for that J-money, that makes a lot of sense. I was looking at the carriers and they are quite different. And yeah, there are 4 spider gears and a cross pin in the 4runner diff while the Taco one has a single pin and 2 spiders. I think I will sell the Lock Rights (I have both front and rear). I appreciate the info

the front is the same. So if you sell it its good for tacos and 4runners

Yeah, I don't really want a lock right in the front. I know you have one, but my 4Runner is my DD so I'm only going to put a selectable up front. Plus CV's seem to break easily enough with an open front diff, I don't think I want to put any more stress on the weak little things

Front lock rights are completely invisible until in 4wd. But hey i understand the reasons. Arb's are sweet. But if i had it laying around I would put it in and then if you hate it, pull it out and put something else up front. It really is pretty easy to install the front locker

That's a possibility. After reading some lock right install write-ups, it seems really simple. Taking out the front diff wasn't that bad either, however I finally got an impact wrench and that thing makes life so easy. I should have gotten one years ago.

Today I scored a complete front diff at the Pull & Pay so I should be up and running soon. Good day:jump:
