You can add a switch, but it requires tapping a wire from the ecu that runs to the lockup solenoid. I have had this done as well as a manual shift controller on my truck for a few years now. It works well, however the lockup clutch in the stock converter is tiny and in second gear unless you are moving at a decent clip on relatively flat ground you will start slipping it. First gear can not have the lockup turned on due to the fluid passages in the trans. Ive found I rarely lock it unless im trying to keep the truck in 4th gear at highway speeds to get my turbo to spool up and do the work rather than riding 3rd gear, or if I am doing long flat runs in second gear where it builds up heat unnecessarily. I should add I have a B&m 70268 cooler with a fan thats setup to come on when the cooler output exceeds 185 degrees and turns off at 175, with this setup I have never seen the temps in my pan go over 190 no matter how I drive and it has been this way for almost 100k miles now. Every 15k when I change the fluid its still just as red as the day it went in despite putting up with double the stock horsepower and a lot of weight. I would say the better cooler route will be a better solution to the high temps you're seeing.

The rail shifter is not needed to wire in the tc lockup switch, however I get more use out of the shifter. Unless I need to be in first for slower technical stuff I like to lock the truck in second gear in 4 low so when I start off or am cruising up steep hills I dont have the jerky shifting.
