Locker Suggestions

Well the lift should be on in the next few weeks and my next mod is a locker since I bought a 99 Highlander w/o one. DURRR. I was wondering what some other people had to suggest. Im considering a LockRite or an Elocker for the rear, nothing for the front yet until I do my manual hub conversion.

those are 2 very different things.

first things first... do you have money to play with?

if so, and you have mechanical skill, toy e-locker of a junkyard axle is the way to go.

if you have a lot of $$$... you can go ARB air lockers.

if you dont have a ton of money, you wheel alot, and dont mind minor compromises (adjusting your driving a smidge) such as some clicking in turns, then a lockright is the way to go :)

i have one, and i love it SO much.

ARB is out of the question. Way too much money. My fab guy down here is trying to find me an E Locker...I dont mind adjusting my driving and/or the clicking of a LockRite. I drive a lot, between 18-25k per year and would prefer the selectable E locker and am not sure I want a non selectable locker like a Lock Rite due to the miles I drive.

i have the e-locker its great and for fun i drove about 5 miles with it locked down to the store wasint as all that bad

i, like lee, have the lockrite. it takes a little getting used to, but driving about 100 miles per day, i have no problems with it. sure, it clicks around a turn, and you have to adjust your throttle/clutch habbits a little, but it is no big deal at all. i like it, because you can take it out and go back to stock if you decide to sell, and off road, it is a locker, so it rocks. plus, for about $200 shipped, how can you go wrong? I would go and spend the money you are saving on some saw's or budbuilt skids.

Although you ruled out the ARB air locker, I would still recomend them. Extremely strong and reliable. You definately get what you pay for with these, and the compressor is great for airing up the tires at the end of the day.
If you get real seriously into the off roading thing and upgrade to significantly larger tires and increase engine performance, then the air locker would certainly be what you want, but both the elocker and lockrite will certainly perform very well under 'normal' conditions.

If you are driving 100 a day my worries of mileage on these things are a lot less now. Looks like im saving for a lockrite. and yes...budbuilt skids are in the near future...its nice that he is about 45 min from me. I wheeled with one of his employees this weekend and 3 tacomas in our group had his full belly setup and they rocked out this weekend at Callalantee.

Where did you get your lockrites from Lee or bflooks

we both got them from Performance Off-Road Center (PORC). do yourself a favor... shop around! they'll beat anyone's price, adn they are the cheapest on shipping. i think i got mine with 2-day shipping for $179 or so.

make sure you call PORC with your VIN so they can make sure to get you the right one.

mine was the 1620.

budbuilts are friggin awesome, i have the front AND belly skids and they have held up tremendously.

at PAP i landed on several rocks and they just took the hit and let me slide off... unlike the stock tinfoil.
