Locking center differential

I took a test drive of a V8 Limited in a few inches of snow. I locked the center differential while coasting at about 25 miles an hour. It took almost 10 sec to engage. When I unlocked the differential it released fast. Is it normal for the differential to take that long to lock?

no it's not normal. it should engage within seconds.

it should engage as fast as you say it disengages.

Mine varies, sometimes its right away some times it takes a few seconds... I have not played with it that much... but I know it works!!!

center dif lock

the times that I have used my center dif locker I come to a complete stop - neutral - 4low - center dif lock, then it only takes about 2 - 3 seconds to lock, as I star moving I turn the wheel left to right & rigt to left for a few seconds, I was told a old friend of my, that this is the best way to do it, plan a head. They are not like the old 4runners in were all you had to do was stop lock and go ..
