Has anyone installed a locking consolse safe in their console. If so, where did you get it and how do you like it. I'm looking for one to put my pistol in.

Google it? Why didn't I think of that? What a concept.

I wanted to know if anyone has one installed and what they think. I'm looking at options for a center console lock box.

Time to stop lurking. I recently joined the clan when i got an 03 SR5 4WD. I was also looking at the safes at www.consolevault.com. I contacted Tom Duengel about the possibility of a group buy for 4gen owners:

Richard:
We do offer a group buy plan, if we get about 25-30 verbal commitments I can
tool up for a model.
With the group buy plan we off the product for $259.00 which includes the
keyless lock system ($35.00) at no additional cost. This program has been
very successful in the past and I will offer all of the support on this end.
Please keep me posted.
Thanks
Tom

So, can we drum up enough people to get Tom to build some for us??? Post a reply in this thread if you're interested.

Not a fan.
You should not leave you piece in your car. Get the permit and keep it on your person or at home.

I like the idea because sometimes it is impractical to carry a pistol everywhere from the vehicle, even with a permit. It's also useful for other valuables besides pistols. If possible, I would prefer a pushbutton access like on other pistol safes, no keys to lose, no batteries to die, just a good strong mechanical locking mechanism. How would this install into the center console? Is it permanently installed, or is it removable? I'm game for one so count me in on a group buy.

What good is your handgun gonna do at HOME?
Some states WON'T issue a permit! I'm sure you got other stuff that can reside in there. IPOD / electronic accesories etc... ?

DSM - it's great at home when I am at home. Do you own a gun?

On your person in a car is very different than locked in a safe when your in the car. I keep it between the seats on the go and carry or don't but never leave my shiz in the rig.

What good is it locked up if you need it.

Just not a fan of a gun in a unattended car.

What states won't issue a carry permit? Thats not American.
I also hope I never will have to. But I would and am more prepared than criminals.

Just lock you door, hope for the best and tuck your toys in your pockets.

I do leave Mrs. Billings in the car unattended! Better than any PDW.

This would be perfect for a CCW... The fact of the matter is that even having your CCW doesn't mean you can take your gun everywhere, and when your out running errands etc. you should be able to lock your gun in your vehicle.

You can claim "oh well don't shop there" etc etc. Regardless, having this safe as an option would be fantastic.

Maryland. Next to impossible to obtain. I'm sure there are many states that are this way.

I'm on board and especially for input on the design. I was going to make one specifically for my subcompact semi but a shop already set up to do this little project would be ideal so count me in!

Concealed/disguised- criminals AND law enforcement would have difficulty finding it. - If you don't have a CCP (very hard to obtain in Kalifornia) the laws in some states require you to have a firearm locked but also behind you or in the trunk and not easily accessible.... therefore to protect your life you have to break the law and hide it from the law as well.

Trust able, bomber, tough and impeneterable (without the proper tools and a good deal of time- 3/32" - 1/4" hardened steel.)

mechanical keyless entry. -It needs to be quickly accessible when someone puts a gun in your face on the freeway or your in a life threatening situation. Sometimes all it takes is to show them your armed too and they will think twice! ("Hello yeah see this? -Do you still want to swerve into me and throw gang signs?" Can't be electric so you still have access if your battery is dead or your camping out in the middle of nowhere.

Padded and quiet interior also- if your not using it for a firearm but maybe gold doubloons!!! :).

I'm thinking for what I want it isn't going to be just a drop in but a mod that requires some cutting and bolting to the body/ floor. I'd like to hear other suggestions and ideas and keep this thread going. Thanks
