Lone Star Jamboree! May 3-6

Guys...saw this over in the "Off Roading" section...thought I would throw it out in the 5th Gen group. (if someone can link it/combine it that would be cool)

Anyone heading to Barnwell for the Lone Star Jambo?

Any veterans have any advice or good intel?

Toyota Trail Riders is the host club of the event. It is a great weekend and is worth the trip if you don't live in the N Texas/ N Louisiana/Arkansas area. We've had attendance from Tennessee, Alabama, Florida and California in prior years.

There will be numerous vendors in attendance and there will be a large exhibit area for them to display their equipment. In addition, there will be a huge raffle on Saturday night with all kinds of gear and equipment to e raffled off.

I've went for several years now.. and highly recommend it.

It is a very well organized event and the park is pretty fun with a decent variety of moderate trails. I've always went with groups and never done any of the guided runs though. My favorite part is the night wheeling.

Anyway. I think I'm going to skip this year. I've gotten my fill of red dirt, which takes about a year to get rid of it all. Be prepared for dust. More dust than you can imagine.

I think I've covered every trail in the park at this point (not in my 4runner though)... There is some body damage potential, but overall its fairly tame and the ratings are pretty accurate.

Most likely not, but I would learn a lot there. I could prob do some trails there at with a limited 4x4 with factory tires. Ya think?

I would probably stick to 2 diamonds as well. Don't really intend on banging up my 5 month old truck.

This will be my 5th in a row. And it was my first off roading experience in 2014 after 30 years away from it. The 1 and 2 diamond stuff is easy enough. I generally end up being a guide for the ArkLaTex group for the newbies, start them on Omega (1), and work them up through Linda Gail and possibly Clyde's Ravine at the end of a run. It just depends on their comfort level. You can expect some brush and small tree pin striping but most of the difficult obstacles have bypasses, and don't fell embarrassed to say no if you're not comfortable with an obstacle. It's a great time.

I'll have my lift by then. Ordered it yesterday.
If I just get bigger tires for my 20s, I should be able to do a few of the trails. If I have decide to do the 18" FN FXPros, I'll just have my street tires. They should be ready to ship in 3-4 months.

I normally lurk here since I drive a FJC but my wife drives a 4Runner and you can do 1-2 easialy with a stock 4Runner.

Here is my wife's '16 on a trail only thing we had on it at the time was rock rails. Stock skids, no lift and street tires.

We were the winch point not the winched.

Hers though isn't close to stock now. We will also be at the arklatex site camping about 30' from CJ.

I believe was 3, actually I damaged my rear bumper right after the picture was taken. The trail has a bypass but the trail leader parked there to help everybody. Last year I was "TRD" stock. Since then i upgrade to 285 and Icon suspension.

As long as I make it back from a work trip in time I am planning to join in the fun!

WFO9 - If you have any advice on trails to hit (fun) or skip (better left to larger tires or solid axle) with a mid-travel build on 34's, please let me know. This will be my first time wheeling anything with IFS so if you have any tips on the transition back and forth between your truck and your 4runner that would also be most welcome.

3WB - I'm not sure what day (s) you plan to guide runs but I will try to catch you to say hello.
