Look at an 03 with weird tach issues

Has anyone had issues with their tach working intermittently? I'm looking at buying an 03 4.0l and he says that the tach works when it wants to. As far as I can tell that's all controlled by the ecu so it's bad wiring cluster or ecu

Probably the instrument cluster having some issues, it does happen from time to time on vehicles. You can find a repair shops that specialize in these repairs vs. buying a new unit.

Have you seen it before in one? I see it a lot with gm products just never in a yota

Once or twice personally (not including the 2nd Gen Prius digital clusters as they have a warranty enhancement and fail a lot) but I have heard other techs I talk to mention them seeing them as well. Its rather rare, but does happen; no where near the level of GM clusters though (those I am very familiar with lol)

There were one or two members on the forum that ran into cluster issues as well if I recall.
