Looking at buying an T4R 4th gen...

Girl and I have test-driven a lot of vehicles... really loving the 4runners. After a fair amount of searching, found an Graphite 07 SR5 Sport V6 2WD with 43K that interested us at a dealership about an hour away from us.

The truck is immaculate... right package I'm looking for, right color, everything... except a sun/moonroof. Looks like it'll need a new set of tires, but that's it. Single owner, same dealership did all the services. Got them down to $21K with new tires, or $20K without (pre-tax/fees).

Good deal? I initially walked away because of the lack of sunroof, but now I'm really debating if I should reconsider. Looking around even 300 miles away to the LA area it's pretty tough to find the package/mileage/price combo I'm looking at.

As someone else who's shopping for T4R's and has been for about 5 months .... It's not a spectacular price, but a reasonable one. If it's "exactly what you're looking for" and has the feature set you want, color combo, etc. AND it checks out with an independent vehicle inspection I might go for it. Others here have suggested / reported being able to buy trucks at much lower prices. I'm a pretty decent negotiator but have been unable to find the pricing some here suggest.

Also check prices at Edmunds True Market Value and NADA Black Book Values for local pricing details by your area.

edit: For the $1k difference in tires, take the lower figure and put the tires YOU want on it.

I don't know what the prices are like in your particular area. If it's the combo you like then it's worth paying more for than perhaps what others would consider reasonable.

I do agree though that 1K is not worth it just for new tires when you can go someplace like Costco and get brand new LTX's for a little over half that price (and with free rotation etc for the life of the tire). I'm sure other tire places have similar deals - I'm just throwing that out there as a point of reference.

Other things you might ask for if the truck doesn't have it already: the cargo cover (I use mine alot, others not so much) aka tonneau cover.

If you are on the tall side then not having a sunroof actually is better - more headroom. I never really used the one on my old truck anyhow.

Might be a good time to check into tire threads about what you may want. Dealer tires may not be the best to stake your life on or go off roading. just a thought. good luck

If you really like that particular truck and the sunroof is the only thing missing, you could always get one put in aftermarket. Not as good perhaps as one that comes stock, but another option to consider.

I have thought about that... would it be as solid?

$20K seems reasonable since the KBB trade-in is only $19.5. We've also found a 2004 Limited V8 today with 70K miles for $15K. Trying to make a decision tonight which way to go. The Limited of course is fully kitted with sunroof, and more power. Doesn't have the Sport pkg though... I like the styling and XREAS suspension on the 07.
