Looking at T4R's

We are trading in our civic Si for a T4R within the month. This will be our second T4R. I am debating between just getting a base one sr5 4x2 or just paying more and getting a trail. If you have either of these are you glad you got it? And do wish you'd gotten a different trim? Also debating between white, gray, and black so any pics would be awesome! We are looking at 2014s by the way :)

Depending on how long you plan to own the vehilce, you will have much better resale value from a 4X4 model. I have an SR5 but I understand the Trail holds its value better.

As I have owned both a 2011 SR5 4x4 and now a 2012 TE- with that being said I would spend the extra cash and get the Trail Edition. The handling of the TE is head and shoulders above the SR5, but I would recommend test driving both.

It would be helpful to know how you intend to use it.

Get a trail! I've had an SR5 and now own a 2014 trail. The ride is much better in the trail and they only come in 4wd.

I personally never considered anything but a TE but I specifically wanted 4wd system of the TE (crawl control, etc...) and ended up with a mag grey base edition trail.

If that's not entirely important to you and things like leather and a 3rd row seat are higher on the list, maybe look at a SR5 Premium. You'll still get a capable 4wd vehicle but trade some of the off-road goodies for creature comforts. The better ride of the TE applies mainly to the premium edition with the KDSS system. Prices seem to really differ depending on where you are in the country but here in the mid-east Premium Trails go for around 40k.

Just a thought. I love my trail but some features are more important to some than others.

Best of luck with your search, def. a great choice that really will hold its value.

We went for an SR5 Premium 4x4 because the extra off-road worthiness of the TE just didn't seem worth it. Our truck does pretty light duty off roading, and is more than capable of tackling what we ask of it. Given that you're considering a 4x2, I'm guessing a TE might be overkill for you.

I can't comment on how much the KDSS improves the ride or handling, but be aware that it's an additional cost option and not standard on all TE's. My SR5 handles fine. No, it doesn't drive like my BMW, and won't drive like your Civic Si. It's a nearly 5000# BOF truck, and handles as such. Besides KDSS, I think the only substantial difference between the TE and SR5 is the ceiling mounted multi-mode selector thingy and the fact that the 4WD controls are lever actuated rather than switch actuated.

We did get 3rd row seating on ours (unavailable on the TE), which is nice for occasional use when you have family visiting or whatever - if you need a full-time 3rd row I would look elsewhere. Also, we got black exterior with the Sand Beige SofTex, a combination that I really like that is not available on the TE. The other SR5 SofTex option is a two-tone black and grey. The TE Premium gets all black with red contrast stitching, which you may prefer. I don't know anything about the cloth patterns or colors available on the non-Premium trims.

The TE also gets the faux skid plate looking silver trim piece on the front and rear bumper covers. And the roof rack end caps are black instead of silver (though the rails are still silver). Wheels are a different syle, but same size (17"). I think that sums up the cosmetic differences.

Very informative thank you! and It seems most people seem to be happy with really any of them which is awesome I guess we will see whats on the lot and then choose Im leaning more towards the 4wd for sure

just went throught similar process and I ended up with a pretty base SR5 4X2. No third row, no leather. It does have the entune stereo which is nice. I got rid of an Acura TL for it. Definitely doesn't handle like the TL, but they are completely different animals. My offroading consists of the dirt parking lot at the soccer fields so I didn't want to pay for 4X I wouldn't use, and I drive new cars for 10 year minimum so resale isn't really an issue either. Took some looking but I was able to find the exact model in Black that I wanted. Quick debadge and took off the hideous pin stripes the dealer put on for some reason and the runner looks tough and mean sitting next to the wifes Lexus CT. Absolutely love the Toyota and it has been a great decision.

Good Luck

Question, why are you not considering the Limited?

If you aren't planning on doing much off roadding and you intend to use some 4x4 features. I would look into the limited. Especially if your the main driver. Push buttons, unlocking the doors by just touching the handles goes a long way for anyone with kids.

Off road capability of a limited is not much less than a trail, if any. If you ever wanted to turn it into an off road machine, there are endless upgrades, not to mention the full time 4X4.

You can't install a push button on a trail... Just saying :)
