If you will re-read these threads, most of the childish antics and BS start with the lefties. Say what you want, but the advocates on this forum are relatively tame and open-minded.
Perhaps with recent threads; I haven't followed any of those. But before that? Hardly.
Before the CO and CT shootings and before guns became much more of a hot button, there was a time when certain people would actually START gun threads by bashing everyone whose viewpoint didn't jibe with theirs.
That's about the time I gave up trying to encourage any kind of open-minded thought or dialogue on anything firearm-related. For doing so, I instantly became a "leftie," a "liberal," a "gun grabber," etc. - pigeonholing monikers which, in and of themselves, don't exactly speak to any sense of open-mindedness, to begin with.
A "truck" forum like this seems to obviously attract more pro-gun folks, and that is what it is. But outside of that, I think you see so few dissenting opinions regarding firearms because advocating anything here other than being in lock-step with the NRA used to cause some people to lose their frickin' minds.
Maybe that's changed in the time since I stopped following most of these gun threads, but I remember people acting as if urging any kind of personal responsibility with regard to owning, carrying or using a gun was akin to murdering a puppy in front of a daycare center.
And to be honest, I have better things to do with my life than to have an endless cut-and-past internet argument, trying to make sense to someone who is so deeply entrenched with their own opinion that their first reaction is to insult me for having a different one. You can't make any progress with someone like that, no matter which political direction they happen to lean.
I guess I came here out of curiosity, and I only posted because I find the idea that close-mindedness exists on only ONE side of any socio-political issue (conveniently, that's usually the
other side) to be utterly ridiculous.
