Looking for a Rear Lift Gate (door)

Big hello to everyone out there and I am new here on this forum.

I am looking for a rear lift gate (door). I do not need the glass, arms or anything but just the shell but if not to expensive a complete door is ok. Do you know where I can find a rear lift gate (door)? As stated just the shell but if complete let me know the price too.

I called my local Toyota dealership who stated it would cost $850 for just the shell not including the paint. Plus they would not provide me the part number ether.

You should be able find the part number and a decent price at Partznet.

Conicelli Parts Center

Select your year and trim level and then go to Body Hardware and then Liftgate.

If that's still too expensive then all I can say is to try to find one at a junk yard.
 
jimithing thanks for the link. $650 is a lot better than $850 from Toyota. lol

Do you know how much it might cost to have it painted? Just off the top of your head.
 
I have a friend that's buddies with the parts manager at a local Toyota dealer. He was gracious enough to give me the (bend over the counter) price of $1850, then told me the auto body pricing of $1250 and finally gave me the (friend of a friend) price of $950. Keep in mind this is for a shell only with no spoiler or back up camera and of course unpainted.

Consider yourselves lucky to be in the U.S. because we Canadians get royally forked when trying to buy OEM.

Yeah even $950 is costly and $1850 is just crazy but I guess $950 is better.

I have always wanted to live in Canada but this is one reason why I wouldnt want too.
 
To give everyone an idea of why I am looking for a new tail gate my current tail gate has a nice size rust spot. Not just a rust spot but the rust has eaten through the metal. The spot is above the rubber window seal and when I pulled the rubber seal back I had all sorts of rust build up and spots bubbling. I could fix those no problem but the big issue is the one above the rubber seal and its destroyed through the metal. I have sanded around the area and put bondo in just to stop the leaking water for now and slow the rust down till I can get a new tailgate.

I'm afraid its probaly rusted the motor and regulator up some inside as well and I hate to even think this.

I know my lock mechinism and hook that the lock locks on is rusted up some.
 
BTW, your insurance won't cover rust. It only covers things like backing into a pole or something at just the right height to damage the door.

So don't do that.

(your premium might go up and it might show up on carfax).

I think there is a company that actually makes and sales replacement lift gates for the year you need. Let me do a little google and see if I can find them. I emailed them about mine but they stated they do not make a 4th Gen version but I am pretty sure they make the 2nd and 3rd gen lift gates.

Looks like it has a couple dings/dents but if its not the color you need then take it to a body shop and have it repainted to match what you have and have them fix the dings/dents. I think for $279 you cant beat it.
