Looking for advice (+ pic request)

Hey all. First time poster here. What a great forum this is as I've been stalking it for a few months now. I'm about to dive into a 2011 limited purchase and I was just looking for some advice.

1. First off, my family has always followed the model of sedans being from Honda and vans/trucks being from Toyota. I'm currently coming from an 03 SR5 4runner with absolutely zero issues in its lifetime. I've really fallen for these 5th gen's and will be diving into a (most likely) limited model in the coming weeks. My first question is this....Is there any reason to think that the 4runners being put out by Toyota right now will be any less dependable or reliable than say my 03 4runner? I know things pop up here and there from time to time but I personally still think of quality when I think of Toyota. Admittedly I haven't followed things in a while....so does this still hold? I want this sucker to last me 10+ years.


2. Could anyone provide some pictures of a 5th gen with toyota stock running boards? One of the options I'm looking at comes when running boards and I want to get a better idea.

I think we all believe that the 5th Gens are reliable and will last for many years to come, or we wouldn't have invested the money.

As for the running boards, I don't have them, so can't show you. However, if you click on the sticky of member's pictures, you'll see dozens and dozens of pictures with running boards. All colors, all models. Look to your heart's content.

It's obviously too early to know for sure but so far the 5th Gen reliability stats are looking good. According to True Delta the 2010 4Runner has been averaging 21 repair trips a year per 100. The 2003 4Runner has been averaging 44 repair trips a year per 100. 21 repair trips sounded pretty high to me but it's actually very low. Only a couple SUVs have done better.

1. There are several threads on this. The general consensus is that Toyota has done some cost-cutting to keep the 4runner within it's price-point. However, cheaper plastics, etc. doesn't necessarily translate to poor quality of construction or reliability. The 4runner is still made by the same company, at the same plant where it always has been. Only time will tell but I see no reason to think Toyota would suddenly decide to stop making ultra-dependable trucks.

2. As the other guys have said. You're better off doing a search for pics of running boards or looking at the member pics thread for ideas.

Ditto @ 15K. No squeaks, rattles, issues, nada. I've followed this 5G forum closely, and most of us wish for some features and whine about a few things, but for-real issues/problems are few.

Go for it.

Just rolled 10,000. Same here. No squeaks, rattles, or bumps in the night at all. Great vehicle and great driver. Every time I look at it or get in I just grin from ear to ear. Modding as $$$ permits.

I bought all of the OEM accessories through trdparts4u.com. As best I can tell, the site is through a Toyota dealer parts department in Dallas. My only complaint with them is that their order processing was a little slow, but they were always very responsive and helpful over the phone, so I would recommend them on that point alone.

But seriously, given the fact that the 4Runner costs about the same as it did 10 or 15 years ago in spite of a falling dollar/rising yen means Toyota had to trim some stuff, but it's not being cut from the chassis or drive train. Cheaper materials perhaps, but still better than just about everything else out there.

Good info Brian, that's exactly where they came from, "Toyota of Dallas." I ordered mine, got them in on Thursday past, didn't care to be bothered with the install, so I called my dealership, and you won't believe this, they installed them yesterday, maybe 45 minutes, and NO CHARGE . I was stunned to say the least!
