Looking for advice

Hello everyone.. I've been looking for a used 4runner for over 2 months. I live on Colorado and all the 4runners that I've looked at here have well over 200K miles so I'm unsure about spending over 5K on a used car with that many miles. The years that I'm interested in is 1991 - 1999. Can anyone suggest a good year to narrow my search? I've been doing some research and I've read that 94-96 have issues with head gaskets. I've found 4runners with low miles around 100K but the owner have either transmission & engine already replaced. Is that normal for the transmission and engine to go out with approx. 120K miles?

The 3rd gen 4 Runners(96-02) have the better 3.4L V6 and just nicer all around. The 90-95(2nd Gen) have the 3.0 V6 with the head gasket issues. The one issue we have with the transmissions is the Pink Milkshake. Do a search on here and you will find the explanation. I would highly recommend the 3rd gen because of the engine and other options available. I have 220K on mine with all original drivetrain and heavy off-road use and it is holding up fine and expect at least another 100k out of it.
