looking for fun day trip around DC area?

It's been nice outside and I am planning to introduce my 4runner to dirt a little bit. Can someone recommend few day drive rout around DC area? Thanks a lot.

theres not much around DC - GWNF (harrisonburg va)
peters mill in VA

im sure theres some stuff in MD that IDK about

You are pretty much going off road driving through DC, but if you are looking for something in the trees George Washington National Forest is about the only thing close in VA. There are also some trails in Md, but mostly western Md. Places like Garrett and Meadow Mt. There are lots of power line trails around, but technically you are trespassing, and if there are houses near by, you can expect to see the police show up.

laytonsville, olney, dayton, damascus, drive down main roads and youll see random dirt paths that ran to logging sites, my uncle took me around a few years back, im not sure what they look like now

GWNF would be a good trip for you. Especially as the leaves turn.
