Looking for street tire advice

So I picked up my '01 last week and since then have been slowly replacing things that need replacing on a 16yr old car with 196k on the clock. One of the places where I can't seem to find any solid or recent info is when it comes to street tires. I doubt that the vehicle is going to see any off-road'age here any time soon so while I love the look of the super aggressive off-road tires I just can't justify taking the hit on comfort, road-noise and MPG's.

So, I'm looking for something that's going be a solid performer on the road, and if possible, looks as aggressive as possible before venturing into compromise territory.

Looking for 265/75/16's

Any help/reviews would be appreciated! :thumb:

(Also not trying to break the bank at this point either)

I've had good luck with General Grabber AT2's. Had them on my WJ and my son's LJ. Nice all-terrain tires that are comfortable for daily use.

I had seen those pop up in my searches, you had pretty good luck with them then?

Any negatives to them?
 
^^^The Michelins last forever but I was never happy with their appearance. I had them on my third gen 'til about three years ago. I was begging them to die so I could get new tires. They finally reached their six year expiration date with plenty of tread left.

I replaced them with Cooper AT/3's. They are highly rated, made in the USA, and have a 60k mile warranty. Discount Tires Direct runs a sale a couple of times a year that gets you $80 off a set and shipping is free. The tire shop I went to charged $20/tire to mount. I have had a set on my 2000 4Runner for about three years and I just put a set on my 2008 4Runner a couple of months ago. They are quiet and do well in the rain. Here's a picture. Tires

Im going with nitto ridge grapplers for winter/offroad use. Great reviews so far from users in northeast and alaska. For summer tires im looking into toyo open country ht’s, nice look and great reviews for wet weather rain traction.

Those look awesome (The Nitto's) but I don't deal with much Snow and most likely won't see any sort of serious off-roading (Maybe trails??), so I don't know how overkill they would be for my needs?

The Toyo's don't look bad either, have you run them before?
 
Tires

I haven’t run them before, but i feel they are a good pick for summer wet traction and comfort, searched alot of tires and only other tire compared is the michelin ltx but looks so basic, hankooks has a similar tire but cant remember the model name. I didnt like the hankook atm’s i had on my work truck.

I don't even know they are there; quiet, comfortable and great at clearing snow/rain. Im on my second set on the 4runner, my previous set lasted 100K

My buddy manages a tireman and he recommended Wild Country XTX as an alternative to BFG KO2s. I have run them for 2 years and one good snow and I love them. They balance perfectly, ride great on the highway, minimal to zero road noise. He says if he didnt get tire at cost, hed run these all day over the BFG. I have yet to take them offroad but he says they perform similarly. Im excited for the next snow because they performed AMAZING.
 
I ended up with Hankook Dynapro HT's in 265/75/16 and I like them. I only chose them because I got all four for $400 shipped but I like them. Balance perfectly, super quiet, and good grip in the wet. No complaints at all, especially for the price.
 
Tires

I'll cast another vote for Michelin LTX M/S, especially if you're looking for "street tires." Not sure about 265/75. I've been running 265/70 for 20 years since my truck was new, and have gotten 70-80K miles from each set. No issues with mild off roading, or even in the snow. I stay away from mud bogging these days. I don't think you can beat Michelin LTXs for general purpose use on a light weight rig like ours. Might be a different story for the more serious overland crowd with built up rigs.
 
I had General Grabber HT's on for a year & they were great. Paid $400 from DTD.

Michelin's are great but expensive & ugly.
I'm a big fan of Hankook's but I've only run their MT's.
 
I gotta go with the Michelins. The LTX is quiet, capable, works well in rain (which I imagine would be the biggest hurdle in FL), and they last FOREVER.

That said, I have a brand new F-250 as a work truck and with them siped they are still marginal at best on the ice. That may, however be something to do with 400+ horsepower and zero weight in the back... don't hold it against the tire.
