And before you ask, yes, I did read the FAQ and the other threads.
I got the suspension, well, most of it, and I am in the process of figuring out when I'll install it. Right now, though, I just have to work out the final details.
I only wanted a very mild lift, just enough to stuff some bigger tires in and to give it roughly the same moderate off-road capability that my 99 had stock (except that my 99 had the factory locker - I may add an ARB later.)
Based on not wanting a huge lift and also being a cheap SOB, I decided to go with the FJC coils lift. Got a set of Trail Teams FJC Coils off the internet pretty cheap. I also got the front shocks but not the rears. I can post pics of these later on as I get to it (maybe this week...) According to the seller the suspension had ~15k on it.
As far as my needs, I do have one specific desire: Because I often pull a small (but rather heavy) teardrop trailer (about 1200lb), I think a little bit of rake is OK. I'm hoping the new springs will keep the rear of the truck from sagging too much, but in any case, if there is a mild rake where the rear of the unloaded truck is say 1 - 2" higher than the front, that's OK.
SO, that leaves me with just two issues left to resolve:
1. Rear shocks, and
2. To put in a spacer or not?
So what's a good rear shock for a 4th gen with the FJC coils that pulls a small trailer? Are the Bilstien 5100's a good shock? Is there any adjustability to them? And - sorry for the dumb question but I've never had a lift before - how do I know what size to get?
Second question - spacer. If I understand the FAQ, a straight-up swap with the FJC coils and shocks will give me a slight rake, and in order to level the vehicle, most people use a spacer, either 1/4" or 1/2". Is that right? So, being as how I want a bit of rake, am I right in thinking a spacer would be unneccessary?
Thanks in advance. I know this topic has been discussed to death on these forums but I'm looking for input on my very specific application, hopefully from those who have been there.
