Looking for Trails and 4Runner buddies in HOUSTON, TX

Hey Guys ,

New to off-roading and just got a 2018 TRD OR.

Looking for trails to start with and maybe some buddies that do trail rides every now and then.

Trying to get into off-roading.

Also if you guys know of a good shop around town for installs etc.

Not too many trails around Houston. Sam Houston National Forest has some nice fire roads.

As a Houstonian you know it’s just so damn hot right now.

I’m retired so have the luxury of extended time off. My 1st trip in my new T4R will be to Colorado in September, when the vacationers will be gone(well most). Then once it cools down Big Bend is nice. I plan on Utah & Nevada in the spring.

I wish I knew a good shop in the Houston area but don’t. I try to wrench most of my stuff.

Not sure if you know, there is also a sub-forum that is for Texas discussions. I look at the similar one for NorCal and someone is always posting about meets or upcoming trips.

I know Duc at duggy's garage as mentioned above. Good guy starting a business. There is also a place that has been there a long time called Gulf Coast Crawl shop. Both are very Toyota/LC focused.

Trails... none near H town. You will need to head up north west. Plenty of stuff up here, but most is really way beyond what a 5th gen can do without damage (it's still possible, just very limited in what you can do at the Jeep/buggy oriented places).

There are still some moderate places to try out. Start with Hidden Falls, Barnwell Mtn and NW OHV. Also brazos valley offroad is in college station. Never been myself, but looks like a good starter place. Not sure how often they are open though. The first three are open all the time.

The facebook group htx t4r is a good group to get into. They do a lot of runs to several places. Brazos Valley Offroad Ranch is great and free on certain days. Mostly dirt and gravel. Lots of off camber hills. Get ready from some scratched up paint though-the trails have tons of brush. I'd love to make it to Hidden Falls one day with them when I have the time.

New as well and in enjoying modifying and playing w my 2018. I’m on NW side of town, Spring/HP campus area.
Dave at Brave Motorsports is doing a lot of my heavy lifting.
He is handling my suspension work and will do a few fabrication projects I’ve got in mind as well. All my suspension is on order and we are waiting for it all to be shipped in.

Awesome. Thank you all for the replies. Not ready yet to scratch up my car or donserious offroading.

Found a chill spot by San Luis Pass where its got some nice dunes. Baby steps.

Doing the heavy lifting myself for now.

Definitly going to check out all those groups( and join) but if you guys want to do a ride down to Galveston beach and check out some dunes LMK

A heads up for the dunes with grass or plants growing on it; I've always read on those groups if the cops catch you on them, you get a hefty fine. I know I've seen a lot of people play on them. I personally don't take the risk though.

I just love the beach on one side and the sand on the other. Ill try and stay of the dunes with grass. :juggle:

Im looking for trails as well.. Waiting on my Sliders to ship before I make my way to HF, in the meantime I went down to Matagorda Beach over memorial day weekend. 3 mile cut is a good place to check out.
