Looking to buy 4Runner Venture help

I’m looking to buy a new 4Runner Venture trim, problem is I live in Southern California and the inventory is slim to none. Looking for insight these dealers out here are marking them up 5-15k if they do have them and don’t care. Idk if I need to start looking out of state or just be patient and see if the inventory gets better, I’ve never bought a new car but I’m finally ready to pull the trigger after looking at all the trims I really like the Venture, what would you guys do and what are some of the prices you guys are paying out the door? Thanks!

Hey man, I’m in California too, the 4x4 models are all marked up like crazy right now. Chips for the computers are short handed and manufacturing is at a all time low.

Best advice is to check out of state. I got a TRD Pro (wanted the venture) for 51 out of state.

I think inventory is low everywhere. I know it is at the dealers near me. I'd say the best bet is probably to order one from a Dealer that won't gouge you.

Yup, probably would be best to order the car from a dealer. If you sit down with a salesman and order the car you want I don’t think they will mark up the truck right in front of your face. You will have to wait at least 2-3 months

use any online car inventory checker and start cold emailing or calling for best price. there is no magic 8 ball that tells you who will charge more or less. it just takes time and hard work.

In Ohio, near me, I see a Nautical Blue one and a silver one. $45,675 is the internet price on each one. Just for comparison to whatever prices you're seeing in CA.

Search out of state, cross-country if you have to. Put down your deposit on the one you want. Fly out there, make a road trip out of the experience and get acquainted w/ your 4Runner on the drive back. Would be cheaper than paying the Cali mark-up.

Wow, things are really bad out there now. I just spot checked several dealers around me. None had any 4Runners in stock, two had only 2-3 Tacomas in stock, and one had 1 Tundra. I guess these supply issues are worse than I though.

Thanks guys yeah it’s tough I’ve found a few but they are marked up 10k and the dealership doesn’t seem to want to budge on the sale because the market is in their favor right now.

This reminds me of when I bought my VW Golf R a few years ago. All of the dealers around me were making them all up $5-6K over MSRP and selling them. I tried to haggle a local dealer down but he wouldn't budge. I left and he ended up selling it to some other person a few days later...so I guess you can't blame them for holding out for the $.

I ended up finding mine at a dealer in a smaller town 200 miles away who was willing to sell for MSRP and driving it back home.

So I ended up finding a Venture at 51k cheapest I could find or I found a dealer willing to put an order in at MSRP I think it was 47.7k so I might go that route just play the waiting game if something pops up just cancel and get the deposit back

I use Cargurus.com and search within 200 miles of my zipcode. I find a car I am looking for and I call their sales department and ask for final pricing including dealer fees etc etc. That is how I found my 2021 4runner and few more cars for my family all under msrp. All of the vehicles I found/bought were out of state.
