Looking to get an 06 this week

I currently have a 2005 Mustang GT. I have had several problems with it so I'm getting rid of the headache. I had a Nissan Xterra before the Mustang and I really miss my SUV. I like the 4Runners way better than the Xterras for 2006. Now I am having some trouble deciding on which 4Runner to purchase. I want either white or Silver because I am tired of dark colors and showing dirt. I know this is a matter of opinion, but which would you guys suggest? Also, I have the choice to get an SR5 or a Sports Edition. There is a difference in price of about $2000. Is the Sports Edition worth the extra money? I really like the hood scoop and the wheels that come with the Sport. What are some of the other perks of the Sports Edition? Both are 4wd which I will probably never use, but it is nice to have it available. Thanks for your help!

Go with the Sport. It also has the XREAS suspension which helps the onroad handling. I definitely think it's worth the extra money. with regard to white or silver, the dark gray was my first choice, but that didn't work out so I went with the white. I gotta say, I'm extremely happy with the white. IMO, it's the best color for the 4R. With all the dark accents on the 4R (windows, scoop, grille, etc), it stands out really nice. The white almost always looks clean, and it's the easiest color to touch up.

Being a Mustang owner I'm sorry to here your having problem's,but that's why I go rid of my 04 Tahoe Z71. So far my Cobra ( 03 S/C convt) has had no issue's....knock wood.

As for the Runner , if you can swing it go for the sport. I have an 06 and it's awsome. A have the Galactic gray. Nice darker color but hide's dirt well. Coming off years of black truck's it's a pleasure.

I also think the XREAS suspension on the Sport help's off road too. Great stuff IMO. I love this truck, you won't be sorry.

I would definitely go with the sport ... If you can afford it, there is no reason not to (unless you want to do a serious lift or something in the future).

The XREAS on the sport improves the ride quality. The hood scoop, while completely non-functional, really helps to dress out the truck.

As far as color goes --- I have the Titanium (light silver) and I love it. I like the way the black runners look a little better --- I just could never drive a black car in Florida.

Go for the SPORT! I've had an 02 04 and now an 06. Wouldn't trade it for anything... except maybe an 08. :)

Sports Edition also gets my vote. Don't forget the beefier brakes that come standard on the SE's. And the 17" wheels look the best out of all 4R wheels imo.

I AGREE!!

You SHOULD GET THE SPORT!!! SPORT EDITION looks the best!...and SILVER is definitely...IMO...the best color, with the smoked chrome!!...

I love MY TRUCK....whatever you want you should get it!!...You will love it!...You will LOVE the SPORT EDITION...if you decide to get that.

You could take beautiful pictures like this....

You don't have to make a choice based on my love for my SPORT...and the XREAS!...it's worth it!!...But seriously you don't have to listen to me about getting the SPORT EDITION!! I'm NOT BIASED AT ALL!!!...

Anyway good luck...

Go with the sport! That is probably the model that offers the best value. In addition to the nice XREAS suspension, you get tubular roof rails and running boards, blacked out headlights, darker interior trim, smoked grill, and unique sport fabric.

Hey man welcome. I sold my 03 cobra for my 06 SR5 4runner.

I was primarely concerened with the powertrain I wanted and I could get it in the base model v8 with a fulltime system and a low range. So far at 6k Miles I love it.

I had a sn95 model cobra before that so you you know I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the earlier model mustangs. Once a 3v engine went in the new ones I was done with them for now.

Ha, I too just got rid of my Black mustang in exchange for a Silver 06 Runner. Well actually I still have my mustang. It is sitting in my driving currently not able to run. I would go for the sport, they look better and the resale is a little bit higher on them.

Sport,

You'll get color heated mirrors, color door handles, color rear license plate garnish and vanity mirrors. There are maybe a few more extras.

sport edition all the way

i just got a 2006 sport v8 4x2 a month ago. paid 29,700 OTD. was definitly worth the extra few bucks for all the upgrades. bigger breaks, x-reas, rims, hood scoop, black seats, leather steering wheel, heater mirrors, black chrome trim...all worth the money.

To the original poster-

I drove both an SR5 and a Sport this past Friday- driving the SR5 first. The SR5 was fully optioned out- and actually had the hood scoop, but the first thing I noticed- was the suspension was very car-like, and I wanted something less forgiving. I next drove the Sport- and noticed the difference with X-REAS immediately.
There was less float on bumps and turns- and the ride was not choppy at all.

If I decide to go a 4Runner(I am also looking at Xterra and Pathy)-it would be the Sport.

Chris

Thanks for all your suggestions! It has really helped in making up my mind. I think I have decided to go with the Sport for sure now. Here's a new question now...how much should I be willing to pay for it. The sticker price is $35k. What kind of deal have you guys gotten? Thanks!

They're selling very close to invoice price, with "invoice" as defined by Edmunds or Kelley Blue Book - not the dealer's invoice. There are cash or financing incentives in some (all?) parts of the country as well right now.

Never walk into a dealer and say "I'll give you X above/below invoice", or you'll get into an argument about what is and is not part of "invoice price". Do your homework - get the invoice price from KBB or Edmunds, subtract any cash incentives that you might qualify for, and then negotiate with actual dollar figures.

As the price of gas goes up, the price of new SUV's goes down, except hybrids. As the weather gets warmer (no snow), the price of 4WD goes down. This time of year is a great time to buy a 4Runner!

I was in the same boat about a week ago, I have been reading posts on here for some time but last week I pulled the trigger, and after being a jeep owner for a long long time I decided to go with a 2006 Sport, I went with the Silver color, just thought it looked the best, next to the Black. But I hate having to do a car wash every week to make it look nice.

I did as suggested above I went in armed with the invoice price from edmunds not the dealer invoice. You have to remember options though, add those invoice prices on and you can find a fair number to go with. Just a rought estimate but you should be able to walk out around. I think I paid $15 for the invoice, but it was worth it.

sorry cut my own message off, but I think I walked out 2% under the dealer invoice, and about even with the Edmunds invoice. I think I gave them about a 3-4% profit on their cost, so I thought it was fair deal all around. Plus I got a great trade in, which didn't hurt either.
