Hello all! I just finished reading the "Why are these trucks so reliable thread" and was going to post there but didn't want to hi-jack his thread so I'm starting a new one. Anyways, like him I have been debating between a 00-04 Grand Cherokee and a 3G4R, whichever I get will be 4WD.
I guess I'm looking for some comfort from 4R owners. The Grand Cherokee is so tempting b/c of the price yet I know there's a good chance it will give me nagging issues that will most likely nickel and dime me offsetting the additional cost of a 4R. Issues like window tracks snapping, auto climate control blend doors breaking power door locks failing will all add up over time.
If I buy a 4R, I'm open to 97 and 98s but would prefer 99-02. I would like to spend under $7K and as close to $6K as possible which seems like it will put me in the 160-190K range for mileage. As long as the timing belt and water pump has been changed and I get the feel that it's been well taken care of, do I have anything to worry about? I'll probably be keeping this vehicle for 3-4 years before moving up again and I only drive about 10K/year.
I am more than capable of working on my own vehicle, I'm coming from a Jeep Cherokee that was more of a toy than anything else and there's not anything that I can't do on my own. With that said, I really don't want to have to fool with anything that much. I want something that I can just drive now and not be slightly embarrased to take customers/vendor partners out to lunch in.
