Looking to pick up first 9mm.

Regardless of my opinion of the rebranded crap SA is hashing out as XD series pistols, the best advice in this thread is to purchase what gun feels best in your hands.

Prime example is my service weapon is a Sig P229DAK and it's arguably on of the best guns out there based on design (or so I am told) but its everything I can do to just keep qualified on this weapon. It's just not the weapon for me, been shooting it for 3 years and still haven't quite pinned what I don't like about it besides the mile long trigger squeeze as 10# of pressure it requires.

But yea go shoot a bunch of guns then pick the one you like the best.

Checked a bunch out last night, Glock, S&W, Rugers, Berettas, Springfields etc.

Didn't care for the Glock, the Ruger felt horrible in my hand, Springfields meh.

Really liked the feel of that PX4 from Beretta. The 92 was too heavy, but awesome.

Ironically what I liked most was that deal in my first post, the MP9. That had the best feeling in my hand and I really like the looks of it as well. Plus the deal with three magazines, speed loader, case, etc etc was a awesome value. And it appears that gun has a solid reputation.

I filled out the background app for it but got a delay. I guess you can get approved instantly (10min) get a 3 day delay or be denied. I'm no felon so I dunno why the delay, not uncommon I guess.

There was a lot to choose from including some crazy expensive ones but for a beginner I think this is a good starter.

That's odd, when I bought my gun I was in and out in like 15 minutes with my new pistol in hand.

Nah, it sometimes happens in GA unless you have a carry permit already in hand, ie no need for an additional background check. Sometimes BG checks are delayed in instances where the applicant moved recently, has different listed addresses, or a common name as examples.

and as for Glocks being too LEO??? really? you would think that would be a pro imo, that just means that its reliable and sturdy, and that in the profession when you need to have a firearm, thats what they are going to turn to to save their life... sounds good to me...

+1. We run our guns pretty hard and Glocks have always stood up to it very well. They also don't seem to have slipped in quality like Sigs have in the last few years. I went over that in another thread.

I've never carried the Beretta 92. But I once carried a 96D and it was a chunk of sh$%, plain and simple, IMO. Most of the guys who got 'em wanted their wheel guns back. I was overjoyed to get rid of that thing.

I just bought a Walther PPS. Personally, I think German/Austrian-made weapons are of a higher quality - in general - than many other manufacturers, so I tend to lean in that direction.

I don't think it matters for squat what a weapon looks like, only that it goes 'bang' when it's supposed to. If looks are truly a concern, maybe your headstone can read: "his weapon was a cheap piece of crap and failed to fire, but it looked really cool...." Besides, no one should really see it, anyway.

I carry my PPS 9mm everywhere I go. Want to trade another of my semis for the PPS 40. I love that gun.

That's a fine rationale...but "going from point A to point B" and potentially saving your own or someone else's life are very different on the importance-scale.

Love my P290RS...Sig fixed all the 1st gen issues...my RS (2nd gen) model has been flawless! It has 8+1 capacity, no external safety, DAO trigger with "re-strike" capability, hammer-fired, standard night sights, optional laser, and is a subcompact.

I just bought a Sig Saur SP2022 for my birthday and love it. My friend turned me onto the gun when he bought his a few months back. I bought mine for $430+ tax but you can get one at Academy for $399. It is something to look into. To me it is very comfortable and I have not run into any jams or misfeeds yet(have only had it a week). I would recommend holding a variety of 9mm's and see what is comfortable to you.
