I always say, check underneath for rust...excessive amounts of rust should be stayed clear of...

that price seems a LITTLE too high, but hey its ur $ and that is one CELAN runner! :D

To high??? LOL you're crazy, that 4Runner only has 51,400 miles on it. It's hard to find a 3rd Gen. with mileage that low. I paid $19,000 for mine and I believe it had 54,000 miles on it and it was in excellent condition.
 
lol I guess I just dont settle for DECENT prices, I search and search till I find that UNBELIEVABLE deal, where u say WAT?!?!?! you got it for HOW MUCH? ahaha, well yea thats REALLLLLLY low mileage for a 3rd gen, so its not a BAD price
 
looks fine from Colorado

That rig would be selling for the low $20's here in Colo. at a dealership-roughly $2K over Kelly Blue Book.

That rig looks quite nice and of course run the Carfax and so on to determine wrecks. Certainly appears to have never been off road. Get it up on a lift and take a look for skid plate scratches, or abrasions at the shock mounts, differentials and other low points of the undercarriage.

Rear axle seals would have left discoloration on the inside of the wheels but this rig is low miles enough to have never had them as an issue.

Pull VIN history with a Toyota dealer and see what they can tell you about the vehicle and it's servicing.

I think you could do better. Prices of 3rd Gens have dropped, since more and more 4th Gens are coming into the market. I see 4th Gens with less than 60,000 miles selling for $18,000-$20,000 all the time. Even my friend was getting ready to sell his 05 SR5 with 40,000 miles for ~$22,000 (but I stopped him from making a mistake of getting a Subaru :D). And this is all in snow country which jacks up 4x4 prices.

I'd pay no more than $15,000 for that rig, and that's if the history and the condition of the vehicle is immaculate.
 
That's a lot of money for a 3rd gen SR5, even an '02. If you're willing to spend that much you should be able to find a super nice Sport Ed or Ltd - I'd spend more time looking.
 
That's not a bad price for that at all. Especially with that low miles and 4wd. If it is as immaculate and taken care of as it says (i.e. dealer maintained, etc) and has never been wrecked or anything I would buy it.

And I personally could care less if you can find a 4th gen for that much. I would buy this one over a 4th gen in a heart beat.

The reason why I brought up the 4th Gen was not because of personal preference. (I had the option of buying a new 4th Gen, but opted for 3rd), but for comparison. When new redesigned models come out, it generally drives the previous gen's prices down. So if 4th Gens are in the same price range, it would be a vantage point for you to negotiate the price down even further, or find someone else selling their 3rd Gen for a lower price.

Like I said, I would not pay that for a 3rd Gen, especially seeing that it's not a Sport or Limited.
 
Get it a little closer to $16k since it isn't a Limited or an SE model. Remember the '02 is a 6 year old vehicle now and there's alot of 4th gens in the high teens with not much more miles and some even less. Also check blue book values.

Thats what im going to try and do.

I understand the 4th gen coming into play. my mom has one my buddy has one and i prefer how the 3rd gen drives over the 4th, plus im a college kid and parts are going to be a little cheaper for the 3rd imo.

The other thing you have to look at is that it has almost all the options that the sport and Limited have. The flares, running boards, cargo cover, etc. The Sport has what besides that, a skid plate and a scooped hood?

I would still try and talk him down just because I don't pay sticker on anything, but you guys are acting like this is a stripped down nothing SR5.

I don't think we're on the same page here. I'm trying to give this guy some good reasons to talk down the price, but you seem to be giving him reasons to settle? It doesn't matter what options it has-it's NOT a Sport nor a Limited. Advantage - buyer. It's like those guys with LS/GSR's with "ITR" upgrades. Would you pay more because of those upgrades? Neither would I.

I'm not telling him to settle, or pay the asking price for it. I'm sure he can talk him down to a point. At the same time though, you guys are acting like he should try and talk the guy down like $5000 JUST because it is an SR5. Facts are facts, and any vehicle with FACTORY options is worth more than it's stripped counterpart.

Since we are using the Acura example, I'll keep it on that level. Look at an Integra LS. If it is an LS then it is worth XXX dollars. Now an Integra SE is worth MORE than an LS, when really the only difference is leather and a "Special Edition" badge. Same engine, same drive train, same pretty much everything.

And people pay more for an Integra with a JDM Type R front end than a regular Integra all the time, if that is what the person is looking for in a car. :p
 
Trim level and options doesn't drastically alter price on any 3rd gens but V6,4WD and lower does alter prices a bit. I'm basing my opinions on prices from what I've seen alot of 3rd gens going for and $17k is a bit high and looking around he might find a better deal but dealerships don't budge too much on price.

I don't think he should talk it down just because it is an SR5 but based on it being 6 years old now and all 3rd gens just don't command higher prices anymore when you can get a newer Runner for close to the same price. The problem with buying a 3rd gen right now for that price is ther depreciation will be greater and in a few years he might still be paying off a car that has lost alot of it's resale value.

:confused: I told the guy to pay any more than $15,000 for it. I think that is a good price for this SR5.

I do agree with you that factory options do add value, BUT only if it's something that is desireable and in demand. For example, I, personally, have not seen a GS or SE sell for more than a comparable LS (same year, mileage, condition). The reason being, none of the "upgrades" appeal to the Acura crowd. But you get into the GSR or ITR, then yes, the factory upgrades add a ton of value. Same principle applies here. The particular upgrades on this SR5 do not add to the value of the vehicle, IMO, because it's nothing that sets it apart or is in demand. If it had a hood scoop, color keyed bumpers, auto climate control, etc., then maybe I could see a price bump, but at that point, why not just get a Limited or Sport? (which is what is also being suggested).

The bottom line: It's a 3RD GEN SR5. More and more 4th gens are coming into the market, driving the prices down for the 3rd gens. Paying anything close to 4th Gen prices is idiotic.

On a side note, I've always liked the USDM fronts way better than JDM's on the Integra. I don't know why people got so giddy over those Accords. :p
 
Off topic- I do too like the USDM frontends and there was a trend of Japanese Integra owners doing the "USDM swap,yo!"

I wonder if any Hilux Surf owners want to swap for some 4Runner badges.:p
