Lose the fender trim?

Since I did my rims in gunmetal (Graphite, actually) the chrome looked really lame. I pulled them (broke two of the clip rings that were stuck to the body) and I am goingto try to graphite the chrome. If it looks OK, I´ll post pics. Look for a thread revival in a month--I´m in Brazil for a few weeks.

I hate my chrome trim, But havent pulled it off because Im worried about the paint being way off from 10 years of sun, or the paint just pealing right of lol.

IMO painted extened flares look best :bigok: , followed by no flares at all which looks clean. The chrome trim just looks tacky to me.

Well.....I took off the trim and found some rust under them. It's not bad. The paint has bubbled and the panel is still solid so it's repairable. Just not what I wanted to see. So I put them back on. Decided I'd rather look at them than the rust until I can get around to fixing it.

Think the little chrome piece can be taken out?

I like the trim pieces better than the flares. I think fender flares are goofy looking unless you have way oversized tires.
The worst were the late '90s Ford Exploders. Those flares stuck out like sore thumbs.

I'm with Elton. The best look is black trims.

No trims looks cheaper like it's a base model. Also expect more door dings.

I took mine off too..but just because I wanted wide flares in it's place.

Thanks, but you didn't look at what I quoted. The question is whether the chrome can be separated from the black part of the trim.

Each wheel well trim is essentially a one piece design, if you look from behind it it's all chrome..On the outside it's just a black plastic wherein the chrome part is....really just plated in chrome...

There's nothing to separate..you're better off painting it black.

Honestly, I think leaving them on is a good choice! Everybody takes these things off now a days, and I find it refreshing to see them on. I also don't know why someone would want to paint them or even paint over the chrome bumpers?? Sure it looks great at first, but the paint always chips, and in my opinion looks worse once the chipping starts. I wouldn't take them off, unless you had something to replace them, as someone else said, it makes the truck look more like a base model. Another good choice would be to maybe get some of the Extend-Fenders from Bushwacker, and get them color matched. I've been toying with this idea for a couple of years now, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. The only thing about that though, as someone else said, it kinda looks goofy if you don't have bigger wheels and tires.

These are just my 2 cents, and most likely not the most popular opinion, but that's me, I never go with the popular vote! Either way, you have yourself a nice rig, enjoy it!

And extend a fenders are nice but are pricey.. Removing the chrome is free.

I like the beefier flares, but the chrome ones are ugly.

That being said, my Runner has the chrome trim on it and I've yet to pull it off. I have been considering bedlining it.

I like the larger flares too, but agree that they look best with bigger tires. The black textured plastic ones might work for me. They're not as wide as the typical color matched versions (I think they came on the limited). Either way I need to fix the little bit of rust under them before it starts to completely eat away the fender.

I removed one of my trims today and it just looked bad , 12 years of dirt and salt collecting under there realy trashed the paint.

looks like I have to shell out for some $ for the bushwackers.

Or maybe paint mine black . But I dont know how well it would hold up....

I don't think these kids know what tacky really means, small chrome trim may not be to someone's tastes but it's far from tacky. Tons of chrome stick on stuff an auto parts store...now thats tacky!
