lots of grease found on parts covered by tie rod boot. Where is it from?

Hi all,

I am in the process of replacing my inner and outer tie rods, and my lbjs. When I removed the inner tie rods, I found the part that the inner tie rod attaches to on the drivers side to be coated in grease. On the passenger side, this bar is completely clean.

Does anyone know what it is from and if this is a concern?

Could be a lot of things - leaky steering rack, leaky valve covers dripping oil, grease from the otre / ball joint, leaking shock. Take a picture, or at least describe the color, viscosity, smell, etc.

Check for a slit in your CV boot. Chances are that's what it is.

Hey, thanks for replying. This picture sucks, but it was the best I could get tonight.

It is dark and has the look and feel of grease, not oil. It is totally coating the part that the inner tie rod attaches to. The other side is silver and totally clean.
