Low miles 2008 Died while driving. No start

At my urging my daughter in-law bought a 2008 T4R, and as of yesterday has about 120k miles. Driving their child home the truck shuddered and died. Trying to start, crank works but engine shakes and quakes no start. They had to tow. Son has no code reader but went through obvious checks: batt connections, looked for oil loss, checked belts, found nothing. This sounds to me like EFI issue. Any obvious or known causes for late gen 4?
They’re about 90 miles away or I would run over with OBD and check codes

I have seen an issue like this on my brother's chevy pickup. It died while driving and woudn't start. He tried reading codes and didn't get any. His issue ended up being back crankshaft position sensor.

About a year ago I saw a thread where a guy had a similar issue. If I remember I beleive his serpentine belt rubbed through the crankshaft posision sensor harness and once he fixed it it ran just fine.

He initially thought his issue was bad battery.

I am embarrassed to say it was the fuel gauge.... it was out of gas:wink2:
sheesh. my daughter in law said nothing about it being low on fuel - apparently the "float" mechanism or whatever it is that feeds the gas gauge was impaired, so it never showed the warning light, just ran out.

Well as they say...All's well that ends well...at least now she knows when it will run out of gas, it could have been much worst if she had ran out in a bad area and had a confrontation with some low-life or worse!!
