The cross bars are removable per the LabRak site. You could install the rack and remove the bars over the sunroof and reinstall if you were to need them for gear space. Nice design feature for those with a hole in our roof.

The slat closest to the front is fixed, but all of the remaining slats are movable/removable.

The first slat is not removable, but all of the others are. The front most slat is integral to the rack's strength.

I will let Shane know that the site is showing in stock. It's in production, he has everything but the mounting feet, and those are in the final stages of fabrication, hence the end of the month install.

What is the mounting situation for the full length like? Will drilling be required for the front feet?

Honestly, that might be a non-starter for me and a reason why I'd lean towards the Eezi-Awn K9 or the shorter version of the LabRak. Aside from the installation headache, I don't like the idea of drilling and not having the option of cleanly removing the rack if it doesn't work out or my needs change.

I'll chime in. I've got the Baja Utility rack. Mounts well and seems built well. Came with weird cheap hardware. Powder coat wasn't the best, but I'm in a dry climate so that isn't really a big deal.
I got the sunroof insert, so I can remove it if need be. Works great and fits great, but again I would prefer better mounting hardware. Square holes and round top hardware would have been nice to make removing/adding not require two ratchets, one squeezing under it trying not to hit your roof.
I think it would be a good rack at $800, and would be worth the full price with a little refinement here and there.
I got the ladder also (first one they sold). Works great. I don't climb it much, but it's great when I need it, and adds a handle to the lift gate the rest of the time. My daughter and neighbor kids love climbing it also.

I want a rack and wonder about having a latter?

be more useful since you could access the top from either side that way. Or maybe a folding stool?
