Do the Sports have an annoying beeper when you're in low-range?? I did not realize that it did this when we bought the vehicle (not that it would have changed my decision) after all, low-range is low-range...didn't feel the need to test it out. Anyway, I needed to maneuver a trailer around an area with some steep slopes this weekend, put it in low-range, and to my disappointment had to listen the lovely beeping noise until I switched it back out. I don't suppose there's an easy way to eliminate the noise?

Problem indicator.

On my SR5 the beeping indicates an unsuccessful attempt to move to low range.

The low-range indicator light came on in the gauge and it did appear to operate correctly.

So, when would it ever be "unsuccessful" going in anyway?

If you hear beeping and the 4low light in the dash is blinking the truck is not in low range.

I believe the procedure to switch to low range is:
Tans in neutral
Then switch to 4low via the selector.
The light in the dash should not be flashing.

I believe the card in the drivers visor gives a more detailed explanation of the 4wd system.

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll have to play around with this some more tonight. I'm just happy that the beeping noise is not supposed to be there throughout the time you operate in low range.

On the subject, a friend of mine's wife called him at work one day. She said "I'm on the freeway, the Explorer is only going 40 mph tops and something is starting to smell really hot!!" It seems his 5 yr old had been playing with the buttons in their Ford Explorer at some point, had accidentally put it in low range, and later on his wife apparently did not know what was wrong.

THIS is why they put beepers on things!

After getting the transfer-case checked out he told his wife that if anything ever SEEMS wrong, it probably is! DON'T just keep driving anyway!

I believe the tac will redline at about 40mph in low range.

to engage 4lo:

1: stop vehicle
2: put it in neutral
3: switch to 4lo
4: drive and have fun (can be in 1-2-3-4-D)

Driving in 4lo with D will get you up to like 40-50ish? Dunno why you'd be going that fast but you can.

to disengage 4lo:
1: stop vehicle
2: put it in neutral
3: switch to 4hi or 2hi
4: drive!

if at any point you notice that the 4lo is blinking and buzzing, it means it didn't engage. so try again. Try moving 6 feet forward or reverse and try again.

If you plan to use the DAC button, make sure you're in 4lo and 1st gear. That's the only gear it works in.

Just by sheer luck, I did the same thing last weekend. I tried putting rig in 4LO for the first time and had same beeping prob.
Then I RTFM, and lo and behold, it said to put the trans in neutral before switching to 4lo. Beeping noise went away and lo worked just like it is supposed to. Then I looked in the mirror and said 'Hi dummy"

40mph is about max in mine. 4th gear (V6).

You have actually taken it up to 40 mph in low range? Why would you do this?

Yes In a parking Lot

Last winter, in an empty parking lot, I wanted to see how fast the truck would be in each gear and max speed. The truck shifts WAY before redline, which I have never approached in my vehicle anyway. It winds out at about 4000rpm at close to 40mph when I slowed back down. No harm but it was informative for me.
